NUMBER CRUNCHING:

"What I Like About You" was one of only two shows exalted by the WB in its press release regarding this week's ratings ("Reba", of course, being the other). The series reached series highs in women 12-34, and neared or equaled season highs in every key youth demo. It posted an astonishing 50% persons 12-34 increase over last year (when the Frog was showing an old "Sabrina" movie from her ABC days). Recall too that at this time last year the Winter Olympics were being held, which may explain some of the year-to-year gains. In every respect, "What I Like About You" is running at higher audience and demo levels than either "Maybe It's Me" and "Raising Dad". If the good February numbers for "WILAY" continue to improve or just keep at these levels, it may lead to good news come May. However, not even Wesley Jonathan could lift the ratings of "Greetings from Tucson".

Good numbers for CBS with "The Price Is Right" may convince the network to do more specials on the order of the "Million Dollar Spectacular" shows...since "48 Hours" left the Friday schedule, this is the one show that's been competitive. "Fastlane" is looking very vulnerable now, approaching the numbers that "Fastlane" drew in its twilight (and a repeat replacing an episode of "John Doe" pulled because of the Columbia explosion also underperformed). This coming week will see specials on both NBC and CBS, and with the contest angle and the extra promotion due to it, WILAY has the potential for higher-than-average ratings for "Valentine's Day" on February 14.
