Amanda Bynes of Thousand Oaks, who has achieved a lot of success with the highly rated "The Amanda Show" on Nickelodeon and this year's box-office hit "Big Fat Liar," is starring in a WB sitcom. She plays a younger sister moving in with her adult sister on "What I Like About You."

Scouts for "All That" found her performing standup comedy at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles and cast her in the Nickelodeon sketch comedy show.

Later, Nickelodeon's "The Amanda Show" was created for Bynes, allowing her to play Judge Trudy and other diverse characters in comedy sketches. (The final episodes were shot last December; Bynes was ready to move on.)

"What I Like About You" was designed as a pilot deal with Bynes in mind.

Even then, even with a ton of fate, fortune and decent outfits, not everything is certain in Hollywood.

"I thought the script was really funny and my character (on 'What I Like About You') is really great and comfortable to play, but you never know if a network is going to pick up a show," Bynes wrote in an e-mail message from London. She is there this month for the filming of her first lead movie role, in "American Girl" -- another part she didn't have to audition for.

The talented Bynes shows her usual charisma in the first episode of "What I Like About You."

"My character, Holly, is really fun to play. She has lots of energy and always means well, but sometimes her best intentions get her in trouble," Bynes said. "In the show I go to live with my big sister, played by Jennie Garth, in Manhattan, when our father moves to Japan for business. I guess you could say we're kind of an 'odd' couple.

"The pilot was really fun because the jokes came one after another. Plus, there was a lot of chances to do physical comedy. Also, (skateboarder) Tony Hawk was a guest and he actually did skateboard stunts on the show -- amazing guy!

"It's a really funny show, but it also has great relationships which hopefully audiences can relate to."

Bynes is the daughter of Richard and Lynn Bynes. Richard works in Thousand Oaks as a dentist, and Lynn is his office manager.
