This is a real showbiz baby. At 10, Bynes was cast on
"All That", Nickelodeon's kiddie sketch-comedy show.
She was so funny and dynamic that Nick gave her a series of her
own, "The Amanda Show", at 13. Now 16, she's graduated
to prime time in WB's "What I Like About You". Because
costar Jennie Garth is on maternity leave, Bynes is currently
back in school, studying "King Lear" and trig. We
caught up with her on her car phone between classes.
When did you start performing?
It was a kids' comedy camp at the Comedy Store. My
[stand-up] act was about five minutes long. My dad helped me
write the material. It was about stuff that happened at school.
You're such a fabulous physical comedian. Where did you learn
that?
That's the equivalent of someone asking, "How'd you
learn to talk?". Sometimes the script says for me to fall
over, so I fall over.
Do you like working on a sitcom?
It isn't as simple as it looks. You have to seem real, but
you're delivering one liners every five seconds. Hopefully I'm
progressing.
What's the best part of your job?
"Friends" is shot on the stage across from us. I'm
dying to meet Jennifer Aniston. That would be huge to guest-star
on that show. Maybe Rachel could have another sister. Why
not?
