On this broad, often slapstick comedy, the
three scariest words imaginable are "Let me help," at
least, when they come from the mouth of Holly, whose efforts at
helping usually mean someone falls down or crashes into something.
Amanda Bynes (Nickelodeon's "The Amanda Show") has a
real bent for physical comedy playing Holly, a cute,
well-intentioned teen who moves in with her uptight older sister
in Manhattan when their dad's job takes him to Japan.
Meanwhile, Jennie Garth makes an attractive foil as sister
Valerie, whose manicured life and public-relations career are
custom-made for the chaos Holly delivers.
The pace is hyperactive and the situations preposterous.
For instance, trying to help, Holly does her version of feng
shui to Valerie's apartment, with the bed ending up in the
kitchen.
"You want me to (turn on) your nightlight?" asks
Val's boyfriend (Simon Rex). "Or should I just crack the
'fridge?"
"What I Like About You" is too spiritedly silly not
to like.
