Descendants of Zohrab of the Manuchariants
Notes
On this page, I list my main sources of information.
This may seem particularly important because most of my sources are
people whom I have never even met !
-
One important source has been various webpages,
and also some of the publications listed in the Bibliography.
- My great-great-grandfather, Peter Thomas
Henry Gordon Zohrab, was apparently the first to construct a family
tree of any part of the Zohrab/Zorab family, although it was limited
in scope to his great-uncle, his grandfather, and the latter's decendants.
-
Judge Edgar Zorab
drew up the second Roman alphabet version of a Zohrab/Zorab family
tree on the basis of the genealogical tree composed in Armenian
by Aviet (Avetick) Carapiet Zohrabiants, of New Julfa, Isfahan,
Iran, in 1919. Judge Edgar's tree was spread over five (5) pages
of a notebook. I have received a version of this by email from
Dr. John Zorab, and then a photocopy by mail from Mr. Kelvin Pollock.
The two versions which I have received are clearly not photocopies
of each other or of the same original, and the latter seems more
authentic, in that it shows lines appearing to be those of a notebook,
and in that it includes writing in Dutch, which was clearly Judge
Edgar Zorab's main language (apart from Armenian, if he knew that).
-
The third Roman alphabet Zohrab/Zorab family tree
was drawn up by Dr. Philip Zorab, of England, on the basis of
research carried out in Armenia and Iran by Judge Edgar Zorab,
including the first Roman alphabet tree. This seems to depart
from Judge Edgar's tree in some important respects, and for unknown
reasons.
-
The fourth Roman alphabet family tree was drawn
up by Kelvin and Rosemary Pollock, of England. They are one of
my main sources on various aspects of the family's history, starting
in 1996. In 2003 they sent me detailed answers to a list of questions
I had sent them about discrepancies between their version and
Dr. Philip Zorab's version of the family tree, etc.. I did not
start applying their answers to my webpages until mid-2006.
-
The late Dr. John Zorab,
of England, researched the family's history and planned to write
a book on the Zorab branch of the Zorab/Zohrab family. He was
also one of my main sources on various aspects of the family's
history, starting in 2000 --particularly as regards his branch
of the family.
