Puppyproof my home?

Absolutely!

Puppies are like children. Curious..always busy...and teething! There is alot that can happen in your home and before you know it...you're having your first emergency! It is almost impossible to get everything, but listed here are a few key things to look for.

  • Be sure you have screens in all your windows. Keep the doors closed and keep your puppy off high porches and landings.

  • Do not leave your puppy unsupervised (inside or out). Puppies are naturally curious and will wander and can get into all sorts of trouble. Before you know it, your puppy is trapped behind the washing machine...locked in a closet...if you think it can't happen....it will!

  • Store all cleaning supplies capped tightly and out of reach!

  • Keep tiolet seats down. Puppies will not only drink from it (and cleaners can kill) but they may play and fall in.

  • Remove or cover all electrical cords. Never use an electric blanket or heating pad in your puppies bed.

  • Never give your puppy medication without the permission of your vet! Do a 'puppy check' before closing any doors. You may accidently lock your puppy in an unsafe area.

  • Keep all sewing supplies out of puppy's reach.

  • Never use a ribbon around your puppy's neck It can get hooked on something or your puppy may chew it and get chocked.

  • Many, many houseplants are pure poision to your puppy...here is the short list of some of the more popular ones. Please keep all houseplants high...away from your puppy. Check with your vet for a complete list of unsafe plants.

Amaryllis Azalea Bleeding heart Caladium
Clematis Daffodil Saphne Dieffenbachia (Dumb cane)
English Ivy Foxglove Holly Iris
Ivy Mistletoe Morning glory Narcissus

  • Keep all chocolate away from your dog. It may be your favorite :o) but it is poison to your puppy!
