   Your Letters and News
THE TWENTIETH CENTURY PHENOMENON

So delighted with the first New Millennium Novels. I have to say I think you are
on to a winner with this format. The variety of genres and styles makes for a
‘magical mystery tour’ feel, but, most importantly, the reader has a good sized
chunk of everything to hang on to until the next instalment. I was pleasantly
surprised by the real feeling of had a satisfying read by the end of the book,
despite the fact that I had no idea how the works would continue. The idea of
keeping up with not one but seven serials all in together is strangely appealing.

As for the contents themselves, FOR THE LOVE OF LAUREL wasn’t my cup
of tea, but there was no denying its pacey drive. I’m sure it would do well in that
particular market niche.I take it THE FIREBRAND was aimed at a slightly
younger reader. Intriguing spiritual/psychological undercurrents - I look forward
to seeing how it develops.

DRAGON SLAYER completely gasted my flabber by turning out to be not
sword & sorcery, but set in Glasgow! The last thing I expected when I picked
up NMN 1 was a character doing a U-turn in Dumbarton Road. More importantly,
an excellently written and absorbing crime story which I look forward to following
through. THE LORDS OF IREGAN also knocked my preconceptions by being
more SF than fantasy. Slightly reminiscent of John Wyndham (which is a high
compliment in my book). Love the set-up with the weird half-brother, empty
mansion and decaying robots. Must have more. (An old bot called Archi, too).

John Light and Sam Smith are both known to me. In fact, I’d already read the
first two chapters of NO SPACE IN TIME as a short story, when it was a work
in progress, great to read the continuation. I was fascinated by the different
coloured seasons and time reversal of the guardian, the dimensions of the
spokeless wheel planet really boggled my marbles. I really admire John’s highly
imaginative use of scientific oddities. Sam Smith I know as a poet, but had never
read any of his fiction. I wasn’t too surprised by his nightmare social scenario,
but found the character of Henry nevertheless appealing (though this might change
when he starts doing people in).

I sit with baited breath, awaiting the second instalment of the twenty-first century
phenomenon that is New Millennium Novel. My very best wishes for the success
of your venture, and thank you for having me aboard.

Neil K. Henderson - Author of 6 novels and over 500 published short stories.

     Dear Editor - NEW
     --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
     Editorial
I have been busy trawling the web and contacting editors world wide
over the last two weeks in an effort to bring you more up to date news
and guidelines from editors wanting your work.  It has been a rewarding
search which has resulted in a great deal of publicity and a lot of new
subscribers to both WOW news and GCN.

The flood of new markets in the last issue are still current.  If you missed
them you can check them out in the archives at:
http://www.themestream.com/gspd_browse/browse/view_article.gsp?c_id=102512
It takes a long time to put together the first issue of a new magazine, the
editor usually wants to get most of the material ready for the first three
issues before the first one even goes out.  So now is the time to make your
approach.  It may mean having to wait up to a year to see your work in
print but you could well be establishing yourself a regular new market.

Online and electronic publishing is big news again.  As usual it takes a big
name like Stephen King to bring the subject out in the open when many
of us have been slogging away developing this new medium for months.
For too long a lot of quality literature has been left unpublished simply
because of the whims of big publishing houses.  Now you have many options,
not just email serialisation (as in King's case), but there are countless
dedicated ebook programmes and now there are the likes of Themstream,
ematter and Truefire where you can publish your work and either get paid
for it by the site or charge people to read it.

There is little, probably no chance that electronic publishing will  ever
replace print publishing.  More likely they will coexist like the cinema,
videos and DVD's, each with their own market and containing niche
material which you will not find in the other.  The simple fact is, that for
you, the writer, novelist, artist, poet or whatever there it offers a much
brighter future.

I would love to hear your views on the subject, so why not email them
to me at voyagemag@zyworld.com

Thanks to Becky Jackson from Ohio, USA who introduced 23 new
subscribers to WOW news since the last newsletter.  She has received
a 12 issue subscription to Voyage short story and poetry magazine in
return. We are continuing the drive to increase subscriptions to WOW
and GCN email newsletters, so don't forget to reccomend it to a friend
a claim your reward like Becky.

On offer are free books, ebooks, magazines and subscriptions.
All you have to do is pass on WOW or GCN to a friend or
colleague and tell them to put "Recommended by YOUR NAME"
in the body of the email when they subscribe.  The rewards are:
