There is an atmosphere in all things American, engaging to the visitor, as well as to those who come into contact with an American abroad. It is not so much the well-known southern drawl.. or in that quick-fired lingo betimes overheard.. as that which is realised in one's knowledge of their marvellous achievements (and promise for the future) from an immense and prosperous nation. One has enjoyed this on our visit..one has enjoyed it in research, when we realised there is so much fun deeply embroiled in it, even when times have been tough for them. Herein is our share of the wonder and the sheer beauty seen in all the States, be it high range or vast vista over plain and valley..or creature.. philosophy or humour. This anthology, then, becomes our salute to the great American tradition, to its people and to its culture, successes and our vital friendships.
