Special Edition Modifications
Character Cards
The original and new characters received new encyclopedia and in game pictures. The orgininal characters stats haven't been modified while the new characters received stats that were derived from the Star Wars RPG and books they appeared in. Please note that the new character's stats are logical and not superpowered (like other cards), being proficient in some areas and deficient in others according to the background of the character. Another new addition is the "Team" cards, character cards with more than one character on them. Not only does this save space but it puts together characters who have historically worked together before.
Capital Ship Cards
Most of the capital ships received new encyclopedia pictures and descriptions while all of them received new in game pictures (primarily Build/System pictures). Maximum shield strength and shield recharge rates for all of the capital ships were lowered so that the tactical battles wouldn't take so long as before. Another change made to the stats to increase the speed of tactical battles was to increase the sublight speed on most capital ships. The effective range of capital ship Turbolasers, Ion Cannons, and Laser Cannons were reduced so that ships wouldn't be able to make such long range shots at enemy ships. The lowered ranges now correspond to the more realistic close range battles witnessed in the Star Wars space flight simulations, on the movies and read in the Star Wars RPGs and novels. Other minor modifications were made to each individual ship so they would agree with the sources mentioned above (more Turbolasers, more tractor beam strenght, etc...).
Starfighter Cards
All of the starfighter cards pictures, descriptions, and statistics are heavily modified. My primary problem with the original starfighter cards was that they wern't much use in the tactical battles. For example, a Mon Calamari cruiser carries 3 squadrons of the superior rebel starfighters but in battle they were practically useless. In fact, when I invaded Coruscant I had around 140 starfighters and they were only able to take out one or two Star Destroyers (and no starfighter managed to survive the battle). To change this, I beefed up the stats so that they would peform more realistically in combat (like not get killed so quickly) and be able to actually survive a fleet engagement.
Another thing I wanted to change was to include more starfighters in the squadrons (having only one fighter type in each squadron seemed bland). Although you can't differentiate the starfighters in the squadrons (due to the game engine), I believe it offers the sense of more going on in the game. I also believe that both sides would use a different variety of fighters in different areas for different missions (like using lesser fighters to garrison outposts on the fringe and reserving the best fighters for strike fleets or defending imporant planets.). All the starfighters in each group were individual given stats (derived primarily from the most recent Star Wars space flight sim X-wing Alliance and RPGs), added together, and averaged out for each squadron card. Every attempt was made so that the stats would be realistic and fair. So although it might be weird, for example, to see the Imperial Bomber Squadron (which includes the Tie Bomber) have a shield and hyperdrive value, it is done so because of the average of the ratings of the other starfighters classified in that group (Assault Gunboat, Skipray Blastboat, ect...).
Troop Cards
All of the troop card's pictures, descriptions, and statistics were changed. All cards were arranged in a logical light to advanced unit so the gamer would be able to differentiate the strengths of units from one another. Most units were beefed up slightly, but the advanced troops on both sides (World Devestator & Jedi) were made much more powerful than the other units for obvious reasons (Jedi would pretty much wipe the floor with other units and World Devestators would normally be a pain to take out). But both units were given limits so not to be too powerful (they can be defeated).
Spec Force Cards
All of the Pictures and some descriptions and stats were changed.
Defences Cards
