After leaving Philadelphia, probably having served as
indentured servants to pay their passage to America, the family
settled in Springfield Township, Montgomery Count in September of
1751. Andrew, the oldest son of our patriarch, Hans Jacob
Ziegenfuss, died in 1778. He also had a son, Andrew, born 1747.
In 1773 the son Andrew married a Miss Reichard of Bucks County.
The marriage yielded seven children - the principal ones being
George (Chapter 2), Andrew (Chapter 3) and John (Chapter 4).
In 1800 the tree brothers George (b. 1779), Andrew (b.
1787)
and John (b. 17??) crossed the Blue Mountains to settle in the
wilderness. They settled in what is now the village of
Aquashicola, in Carbon County. (Carbon and Lehigh Counties were
then part of Northampton County). There Andrew married Catherine
Boyer and became a farmer. Catherine was the daughter of John
Jacob Boyer of Little Gap. While her father was plowing, the
Indians shot and scalped him. The children (Frederick, Dorothea
and Catherine) witnessed the attack and were taken captive by the
Indians. They were taken by the Delaware Indians to Canada.
There Dorthea married an Indian chief. In 1763 Frederick
returned to Towamensing area. One of his daughter- Catherine (b.

The above consists of the knowledge of the writer (Rev. William J. Ziegenfus)
concerning this branch of the Ziegenfus Family. An addition to
this chapter will have to be added in order to bring the branch
up to date to include the present two generations of younger
Z's.
Proper credits for this chapter go to the "History of the
American Boyers" by Melville Boyer (1940) pp. 184-186.; the work
of former historians Gordon Ziegenfus, and Lloyd Ziegenfus; and
to the present and past members of Andrew's branch who have
furnished the data in years past to the author.
