Truespel shows stress

The difference between Truespel and other variants of New Spelling such as ALC fonetic, is that Truespel marks stress.   The grapheme - phoneme table for Truespel [below] is almost identical to ALC fonetic which in turn is almost identical to  SPELRIET.  The Spelriet pages provide a complete rationale for the ALC
approach to the alphabet problem.

Traditional orthography (TO) for English consists of 40 sounds (phonemes).  All 40 sounds are present in the following story:

Traditional
Orthography
"That quick beige fox jumped in the air over each thin dog.
Look out, I shouted to her, for he's foiled you again."
Truespel "That kwik baezh faaks jumpd in thu air oever eech thhin daug. Look out,  ie shouted tu hur,  for heez foild yue uggen."
IPA ðæt kwik beiZ fks dZLmpt in ð e ouv i:tsh þin d:g.  luk aut, ai shaut'd tu: h3:, f:r hi:z foild ju: gen.
Chekt Speling Xa·t kwi·k bei2 fo·x j'mpt in x er o'vr ich thi·n dog.  Lu·k aut 'I 5aut'd tu h'r, for hiz foild iu a'gen.
SPanglic That quik beizh fox jvmpt in the er oavr ich thin dog.  Lwk aut ai shauted tu hrr, for hiz foild yu 'agen.
Iqliz d cwic bez fox j'mpt in d er ovr ik thin dog.  Luk at a shat'd t' h'r, for hiz foild y 'gen.
Latin-1
To mark stress, as shown above, Truespel double consonants before the stressed vowel.  The only word in the short passage that illustrates this convention is the word [again - uggen].

The peachcolored cells are not included in the Jones/Wijk essential phoneme inventory.
All checked vowels (vowels which are checked or stopped by a consonant) are short and all free vowels, with the exception of schwa in an initial position, are long.  If a vowel occurs at the end of a word, it is by definition a free vowel and does not need to be distinguished from a checked vowel. Thus "See mie  haloe" could be "Se mi halo."  or "Si m'y halo." in CKS
Only when the free vowel is followed by a consonant does it need to be distinguished from a closely related short vowel.

Is stress phonemic?
A phoneme is a difference in sound that makes a difference in meaning or interpretation.
A writing system is phonemic to the extent that it consistently marks all the phonemes.
Phonemic is a near synonym of alphabetic.  An ideal alphabetic system is one that assigns one
[and only one] symbol [mark, shape, or letter] to each phoneme in the spoken language.
The mark becomes a symbol or sound-sign or phonogram when two or more people associate it with the same phoneme.
An alphabet is a set or collection of sound signs -- a correspondence table between graphemes and phonemes.

To make a stronger case for Truespel,
all we need is one word where failure to mark stress
changes the meaning of a word.

contrastive pair test:
abut and abbot is almost a candidate of the tab | tub, pin | pen variety
abut and abbot are distinguished in print, but not systematically sound spelled.
desert - desert
differ - differ

We say that the tab| tub contrast proves that a and u are distinct phonemes in English.
They are distinctive sound features which distinguish at least one word pair.
So there are a few words where the failure to show stress changtes the meaning of the word.
