ActiveSync & Removing Software

Removing a software installed is pretty easy but the trick is to use ActiveSync for this purpose.  To remove a program you need to do the following:

  1. Connect the PPC to the Desktop computer.
  2. In ActiveSync, click the Tools menu.
  3. Click Add/Remove Programs, and do one of the following:
  • To remove a program from the PPC, clear its check box by clicking it.
  • To remove a program from both the PPC and the Desktop computer, select it and click Remove.
  1. The program will be removed as per the option selected.

If you notice grayed out check boxes, as shown in the image below, then it means that the program is available only on the Pocket PC and is not installed on the Desktop PC.

In the above example, "Microsoft Money for the Pocket PC" was uninstalled using the Add/Remove Programs provided by the operating system.  Therefore, although Money for Pocket PC is removed from the Desktop, it still is installed on the Pocket PC.

Most programs, come with an uninstaller and are listed in the Add/Remove Programs of the operating system.  However, there are a few programs that might be seen in your list of programs installed, yet it does not appear in the Add/Remove Programs dialog of the operating system.  This is because the software installed has created folders on your computer.   You would find them in the following location:

<drive letter> :\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync

These will be removed when you uninstall the software using ActiveSync as explained at the beginning of the document.
