ActiveSync - Synchronizing Drafts Folder

The Inbox synchronization option in ActiveSync does not allow you to synchronize the Drafts, Deleted Items, Outbox, and Sent folders. To know the reason why it appears, refer to MSKB article - 309911

Why doesn't Drafts folder synchronize?

The Drafts folder is currently not supported for synchronization for a simple reason - Pocket Inbox doesn't support HTML. Therefore any drafts that you have saved in the HTML format would lose all its formatting if it were synchronized back from the device to the Drafts folder. This is one of the primary reasons why Inbox synchronization is Desktop to Device and Outbox synchronization is Device to Desktop. For more information refer - ActiveSync & Inbox Synchronization. Therefore currently it is not possible to synchronize Drafts folder.

Moving Plain Text Draft Messages from the Desktop to the Device:

Although ActiveSync doesn't support syncing of these folders, you can move these messages to your device using a work around. ActiveSync supports synchronization of sub folders (Type: Mail and Post items) created in MS Outlook. So one way to get the mails of the respective folders is to create a new folder in Outlook and then move or copy the message to this folder, enable this folder to synchronize under the Inbox settings of ActiveSync and synchronize.

You can apply the same method and create a folder (example: "Drafts - Desktop") and place your drafts here. ActiveSync will create a similar folder on your mobile device. Once the message is synchronized, move it to the Drafts folder of your device. This will enable you to edit the mail.

You don't have to bother about the deleting the draft messages contained in the "Drafts - Desktop". Moving the message to the Drafts folder of the device results in ActiveSync deleting the mail from the created folder. So on the next sync, the message will be removed from the desktop if it is not contained in the corresponding folder on your device.

Moving Draft Messages from the Device to the Desktop:

If you were to store a draft message on your device under the folder created above or under any other folder, it will fail to synchronize back to the desktop computer. To get a draft message from your device:

1.  Open the draft message and click Send.
2.  Before syncing, move the draft from the Outbox to the Inbox.
3.  Upon synchronization the draft is available on the desktop. You can open it directly for editing or move it within Drafts.

In #3 above, the draft is moved from the Outbox to the Inbox so that it is not sent accidentally by Outlook on your desktop. If Outlook is not set to automatically send messages, you can synchronize it directly and move the messages from Outbox to Drafts via Outlook.
