I made this graphic for someone, and thought I would share how
I created it. This was for Halloween, but would be great at back to
school time etc. It's Probably been done before by someone
else and better!
This tutorial was created in Paint Shop 6, but works with 7.
Open a new transparent image about 300 by 200,
or whichever size you prefer.

once or more for level of darkness you wish.
Use the mac page curl filter next or similar plug in,
with PSP 7 there is a page curl under -effects-
geometric effects. You can view how the curl
will look as you adjust your settings.
These are the settings I used with the mac curl filter,
I left this one shiny and raised medium up the page.
My settings were size -220, transparency -119, shininess -241,
shadow-175, and 214 for orientation. You can just have the
bottom curl and the picture more on the top sheet or the
opposite - settings can be adjusted as you like.

Now, you can leave the underneath part of the slate
the color, which the plug in leaves it or you can use your
selection tool and flood fill to the color of your choice.
I think black works best.
Next you can use your border tool and just add a top
border of about 20 then flood fill it with dark brown
or the color of your choice, then bevel ,
I used inner bevel groove, or buttonize for a pad border,
while still selected. Then deselect.
I used a tube with a cat on a broom.
Create a new layer, then put the tube of your choice on the
black bottom of the picture. For effect, I used psp6 black
pencil effect set at auto proof and 100 detail with 56
opacity, but you can play with the settings or
use your emboss effect. In PSP 7 I would use the
high opacity and detail set low. I think a
bright or colorful tube works best.
wherever you like.
-this can be done before you add the curl, if you want your curl
partially over it, as above - or you can now
use the freehand tool and select any part of the picture
on the curl, then under edit cut it off.
you wish, I used a black out effect and lowered the
transparency, then applied a drop shadow. You can just use
the black pencil or gray effect if wanting the idea
of a real slate.
Paint or place text etc., as you wish
On the top of the page's slate, I kept with the idea
of actually using a slate and wrote tutorial with the cat.
On the Halloween one I used the text tool.
Can leave it or buttonize it.
Have Fun!
You can add a pencil to your graphic

by opening a new transparent image. use your
selection tool set at rounded rectangle. Make the
rectangle of the size you prefer or you can use your
shape tool. Flood fill with the color or your choice.
Use inner bevel, I again used the groove bevel,
the use your eraser brush and erase to make
a sharper point. Then crop and save.

When I find the Mac page curl filter link, I'll add it here also.
