Topographic map of Sheldon Jct.
Missing bridge at Sheldon Jct. Digital photograph by Kenyon F. Karl on June 22, 1998.

The railroad bridge
across the Missisqui River just southwest of Sheldon Junction is
missing one of its three massive spans. Since the nearby Route
105 highway bridge does not have any sidewalks or breakdown lanes,
trail users must necessarily use the travel lanes of the highway
bridge to cross the river. The extremely rural location of this
bridge as well as limited sight distances for motorists just contributes to the hazardous nature of this river
crossing!
Highway signs are in place to direct
bicyclists through the temporary on-road detour. Snowmobilers should cross VT 105 and follow the VAST trail to an
alternate river crossing.
Hikers, bikers, and wheelchair users may wish to consider riding the Northwest
Vermont Public Transit Network bus across the
bridge if that bus schedule is appropriate to their needs.
Sign images are from the Manual of Traffic Signs by Richard C. Moeur.
