The Association had a busy and productive year in 1999 and looks forward to the next century with high hopes. Tops on the agenda will be an attempt to have the Crown Point Road listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We hope it won't take 100 years but we are told it will probably take at least ten.

During the annual meeting October 19, 1999, the Association's membership voted to approve submission of an application to the Vermont Agency of Transportation for an enhancement grant of $20,000. This was done and CPRA has now had approval of the grant for a feasibility study. The money will be used to hire a professional architectural historian and archaeologist to establish the original road through the Socialborough area (Clarendon, Rutland Town, Proctor, Pittsford). A consultant would also be hired to prepare a Multiple Property Resource Documentation form which is a part of the nomination process for the National Register. Al Ransom, who has researched this section of the road, and other CPRA volunteers will assist the professionals to provide the Association's financial obligation portion of the grant.

Members felt this was an appropriate time to take action since so many sections of the road are becoming lost or destroyed. If anyone has questions or comments, please call one of the Association's officers. We will you keep you posted as plans progress.

The second edition of "Historical Markers on the Crown Point Road" has been published and is selling very well at $15.00 per copy.

Dennis Devereux has resigned as secretary due to his many volunteer obligations but will stay active as hike leader and researcher. Len Lumsden, president of the Pittsford Historical Society and site interpreter at Hubbardton Battlefield, has been welcomed on board as our new secretary.

As part of Memorial Day observances the CPRA has tentative plans to dedicate a new granite marker - 23A - on Greenbush Road near the Weathersfield-Cavendish line. The marker will honor long-time CPRA enthusiast, the late Clenn A. Wheelock. Watch your newspaper for details.

Each spring it is necessary to clean and clear around the markers. If you would care to lend a hand call any of the following:
