Burlington Bikeways operates a Bike & Pedestrian Ferry across the Winooski River on a seasonal basis between the north end of the Burlington Waterfront Bikeway and the south end of the Delta Park Bike Path. The 2001 schedule of the ferry is available at the Winooski River Bike Ferry Web Page. The ferry will run every 10 minutes when busy and on demand at other times. All ferry riders under the age of 12 are required to wear a personal flotation device during the ferry trip (available from the boat crew). Note that volunteers are required to assist the captain in docking the ferry and provide court-ordered monitoring of the Delta Park bike path. Ample free parking for bike ferry passengers is available at Leddy Park in Burlington, and at Airport Park in Colchester!
Trail access available in Burlington at:
CCTA
North Avenue (N) Bus runs on North Avenue on weekdays
& Saturdays,
roughly parallel to the trail to perhaps a half-mile away. All CCTA busses
have bike racks. Stops
must be located near the northeast ends of:

(Charlie's) Auer Family Boathouse just south of the current end of trail offers hamburgers & hot dogs,
refreshments, tackle & live bait, rowboat
& canoe rentals, boat dock & moorings, boat launch, and limited self-contained
RV camping during the boating season. Picnic tables are available near the ferry
landing, but these tables must be shared with waiting ferry passengers. Water bottles can be refilled at a
garden hose faucet on the east side of the red building.
Chemical
Toilets are available at the North Avenue Crossing and also at (Charlie's) Auer Family Boathouse
from Sept 23 to Oct 29, 2000. One or both of these toilets should
return when the ferry resumes operation in May of 2001.

Limited Parking is available in the park at Starr Farm Road, along with drinking
water and a playground.

Ample parking, flush toilets, drinking water, trash buckets, picnic tables,
picnic shelter and a playground are available at Airport Park on Colchester
Point Road. The western end of Airport Park is the junction between the Causeway
Park Trail and the Bike Route to Delta Park and the Bike Ferry.
The Bike
route to the Delta Park Bike Path begins at the western end of Airport Park, and
uses Buckingham Drive, Biscayne Heights, and Windemere Drive.

A chemical toilet is available at the far end of the Colchester Point Boat Ramp
parking area during boating season. Bike ferry parking is not allowed in the boat ramp parking lot!

Bicycles are only allowed on the Delta Park Bike Trail when the Bike Ferry is
operating. Bikes are never allowed elsewhere in Delta Park.
Bike Ferry Parking is not allowed in the tiny Delta Park parking area!
Bikers that plan to visit other parts of Delta Park are urged to bring a chain and lock to secure their bike to the wooden
railings of a pedestrian turnstyle in a manner that does not block passage
through the turnstyle.

A trash bucket and Bike Ferry information is available at or near the entrance to Delta
Park whenever the Bike Ferry is operating.
