Friends of the Highland Division Rail Trail

Meeting Minutes

February 15, 2001

In attendance: Dan Fraizer, Art Catellier, Bruce Colby, Craig Della Penna, Jack Saunders, Ed Marrone, Fred Chesbro, Michelle Ryan

1. Dan Fraizer reported on the Planning Dept. meeting that had been set up as a working group of individuals both for and against the trail, and the trail planners and designers, scheduled for Thurs, Feb 22. Members who will be attending as representatives of the Friends are Dan, Bruce Colby and Michelle Ryan.

2. Newsletter: decided as a group to hold off on sending out newsletter until after the working group meeting of the 22nd.

3. Art Catellier discussed his dissatisfaction with the way the Friends of the HDRT group was working as a whole. Felt that there was no sense of organization. Suggested getting together to develop mission statement, organization bylaws. Members of the group, while agreeing with Art on some areas, pointed out that the group itself is still in the beginning stages, that at the last meeting much was accomplished, and that we would be developing by-laws and as a non-profit as soon as the paperwork was completed. Susan Joel will be meeting with the attorney, Cindy Turnbull of Springfield, to help develop the paperwork on Feb. 22.

4. Bruce Colby spoke with Rep. Cheryl Rivera. She is "pro-trail" but does not wish to make a public statement at this time. Wants to hear from concerned citizens/opponents. Bruce also spoke with the designers, Greenman-Pedersen and met with them, along with Kerisa Perezella of the Planning Dept. along the trail. They walked the trail and discussed issues around the crossing of Allen and Sumner.

5. Next meeting: March 15, 2001 at 6:30, Goodwill at the X.
