"The Love of Horses"

I love horses so much, It is hard to explain
All horses, wild or tame

>From the smallest Shetland, To the tallest Thoroughbred
I will love them from when they are foaled, until they are dead

All horses should be treated kind and true,
Even when they are happy, or feeling blue

Horses move with such majesty and grace,
from the tip of their tail, up to their beautiful face

I love to see them gallop in the fields and see them have fun,
I could watch a horse, until the day is done

And have you ever noticed, how their eyes seem to shine? ,
Well thats because their spirit will always run free,
Until the end of time
~* Janelle *~

He who holds a carrot in his mouth to give to his horse earns the nickname "Nolips"....

"I never play horseshoes 'cause Mother taught us not to throw our clothes around." -Mr. Ed
"Never thank yourself, always thank the horses for the happiness and joy we experience through them." -Hans H.E. Isenbart
"It's a lot like nuts and bolts-if the rider's nuts, the horse bolts!" -Nicholas Evans, The Horse Whisperer

The Age of a Horse

May your belly never grumble,
May your heart never ache,
May your horse never stumble,
May your cinch never break!

A horse is a horse, of course, of course
They use the dark side of the force
They like to eat and poop and play
And you....you get to pay...

I will not change my horse with any that treads.
He bounds from the earth;
When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk.
He trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it.
The basest horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes.
He's of the color of the nutmeg and of the heart of the ginger.
He is pure air and fire, and the dull elements
Of earth and water never appear in him,
But only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him...
His neigh is like the bidding of a monarch,
And his countenance enforces homage.
~William Shakespeare

"Where, in this wide world, Can man find nobility without pride, Friendship without envy, Or beauty without vanity? Here, where grace is laced with muscle, And strength by gentleness confined. He serves without servility. He has fought without enmity. There is nothing so powerful, Nothing less violent. There is nothing so quick, Nothing more patient. England's past has been borne on his back, All our history is his industry. We are his heirs, He our inheritance. The Horse."
~Ronald Duncan

"When Allah created the horse, He said, 'I have made thee unlike any other. All the treasures of the world lie between Thine eyes. Thou shalt cast mine enimies between Thy hooves, but Thou shalt carry my friends upon Thy back. This shall be the seat from which prayers rise unto me. Thou shalt find happiness all over the earth and Thou shalt be favored above all other creatures, for to thee shall accrue the love of the Master of the Earth. Thou shalt fly without wings and conquer without sword.'"
~The Koran

Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils [is] terrible. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that [it is] the sound of the trumpet. He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting." Job 39:19-39:25

A horse's good manners

From head to hoof and back again.

For want of a nail a shoe was lost, for want of a shoe a horse was lost,
for want of a horse a rider was lost, for want of a rider a army was lost,
for want of an army a battle was lost, for want of a battle the war was
lost, for want of the war the kingdom was lost, and all for the want of a
little horseshoe nail.
~Benjamin Franklin

I will not change my horse with any that treads but on four pasterns...When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk. He trots the air, the earth sings when he touches it, the basest horn of his hoofs is more musical than the pipe of Hermes...When bestride him I soar, I am a hawk...

Somewhere...Somewhere in time's Own Space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again.
~Stanley Harrison

The old mare watched the tractor work
A thing of rubber and steel,
Ready to follow the slightest wish
Of the man who held the wheel.
She said to herself as it passed by,
You gave me an awful jolt
But there's still one thing you cannot do,
You cannot raise a colt.
~Source unknown

If I had a horse, I'd ride off in the sunset, where dreams, and shadows lie. To a life, where pain and sorrow don't exist, and to where hopes, and dreams become reality.
~Lindsay Turcotte

he displays himself in his splender.

~Helen Thomson

A horse already knows how to be a horse;
the rider has to learn how to become a rider.
A horse without a rider is still a horse;
a rider without a horse is no longer a rider.

Speak kindly to your little horse,
And soothe him when he wheezes,
Or he may turn his back on you,
And kick you where he pleases.

...This most noble beast is the most beautiful, the
swiftest and of the highest courage of domesticated
animals. His long mane and tail adorn and beautify him.
He is of a fiery temperament, but good tempered,
obedient, docile and well-mannered.
--Pedro Garcia Conde
