Here's some horse treats I picked around the internet and from
different horse magazines.
![]() APPLE CHUNKS
5-6 apples,1 1/2 cups molasses, 1 cup sweet feed, 1 cup rolled oats
2 grated carrots, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2 tbsp. sugar.
Chop apples up finely. Pour molasses, sweetfeed, oats,
carrots, salt and sugar in a bag. Put in apples and shake.
Chill in fridge for at least 1/2 hour or until ready to serve.
HORSE COOKIES
1 cup uncooked oats, 1 cup flour, 1 cup shredded carrots, 1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar, 2 tbsp. vegetable oil, 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup molasses.
Mix ingredients in bowl as listed. Make little balls and place
on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or light brown.
CARROT and APPLE HORSE COOKIES
1 cup sweet feed, 2 cups bran, 1 cup flax seed, 4 large carrots
shredded, 1 cup molasses, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 cup applesauce
Mix molasses, brown sugar, carrots, and applesauce
in one bowl. In another mix the dry ingredients. Slowly
combine the molasses mixture with the dry ingredients. Add
only enough molasses mixture to form a thick dough, add more
bran if necessary. Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil, using
a tablespoon drop batter onto cookie sheet and flatten slightly
to form portions about the size of a silver dollar. Bake at 350
for about an hour, flip and bake for another 45 minutes, until
they are dried out, keep checking to make sure they
don't burn.
WINTER TUMMY WARMER
4 cups oats, 3 cups bran, 3 Uva Ursi Leaves(available in health
food stores), 2 carrots, sliced, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 apple
quartered, hot water, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2 eggs
Place feed in a large bowl. In a seperate bowl, beat eggs well,
add them to the feed, and mix well. Dissolve the molasses in hot
water and add a little at a time to the feed mixture until it is sticky
and firm. Pour it in gradually, as you might not need it all. You
should be able to mold and shape the feed mix. Add more liquid
or more feed for the correct consistency. This is the base for the Christmas
Pudding and for the Munchy Crunchy Christmas Cake.
YUMMY APPLE TREATS
2 apples, 1/4 cup molasses, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 cup uncooked oats
Cut apples in quarters, removing core and seeds. Place in bowl
and drizzle molasses over apples, using a spatula to get all
the molasses out of the measuring cup. Stir the apples to coat
evenly. Put the oats and salt into a large baggie and shake well.
Put the apples into the baggie and shake well, until evenly
coated with oats. Leave in baggie until ready to use.
