Hi everyone! I am Rachael. I've been keeping Betta Splendens, commonly called Siamese fighting fish, for about one year. They have probably been some of the best pets I've had. You don't have to walk them, clean out litter boxes, give them baths, and they don't wake not only you but the whole neighborhood up around 2 am. You only really need to feed them twice a day and change their water twice a week.
I do actually love all animals. Between both my parents houses I have 2 cats, 2 dogs, a guinea pig, 10 bettas, and until recently :( 2 parakeets. So, I've had my share of pets.
I first got into bettas just over a year ago when I bought a one gal. tank and was attempting to find a fish to put into it. I don't have good luck with goldfish so I came up with bettas. My first betta lived only 3 or 4 months but I think it was because he had been at the pet store for a while where he lived in an 8oz plastic cup. A few months ago I found a beautiful fan tail turquoise betta. Soon after my desk was covered with various containers of bettas.
Recently I have decided to breed my bettas. In fact I started my first spawn May 28, 1999. I will try to get a spawn journal going on this web site.
NEW! I decided to add Background sound to the main page. I'll be changing it weekly to give varity. I basically will pick music that makes me happy to listen to and I hope you feel the same way. This weeks selection is Sing, Sing, Sing! If you have any song you want to hear here just email me and I'll see what I can do!
This site was started as an independent research project for my English class. I have been working on this project for several weeks and I hope to present my research as clearly as possible on this site. There will be a link page of sites I visited when I was researching bettas. I have found many deviations to almost everything I have read, so, what I put down is pretty much the most popular or common thoughts.
