Our son Wei Herng was born in November 1997 at the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) in Brunei Darussalam some nineteen years after the first test-tube baby, Louise Brown, was born in England in 1978. Wei Herng is the result of our sixth and final IVF attempt. This was done at the JPMC. Although the JPMC was newly set up then, it had a very succesful IVF programme. Sadly, the infertility clinic had to close in April 1999. For us, the offering of IVF at our own doorstep for the very first time was simply too tempting to resist. In that short window of opportunity we made the most of it.

Wei Herng represents the culmination of 14 years of baby chase for both my wife and I. There is now dignity in saying that we had done enough.
