HELL YES! This is how an action anime should be. Plenty of swordfights, EXCELLENT characters, and actually, the plot isn't too bad either.

I'll start with the plot: "The retainers of the yamashiro clan have found a gold mine and are secretly digging up gold. However, a ninja for hire, by the name of Jubei, has killed the retainers of the clan by the order of the lord because the retainers were going to tell the government about the mine. If the government found out about the mine, the lord would lose it. The government found out somehow and tried to get evidence about the mine, but whenever they sent someone to infiltrate the mine, they were killed. The shogun of the dark, a group of people who want to overthrow the government and are supported by a team of ninjas with supernatural powers called the "eight devils of Kimon", are helping the clan to protect the gold from the government. The only reason a powerful group like the shogun of the dark will help the clan is because the shogun of the dark want the gold for themselves, and with it, the can become powerful enough to overthrow the government and bring tyranny to Japan.

"Five years after the slaughter of the retainers, Jubei continues to search for people who want to hire him. Dakuan, one of the government spies who survived an attack by the eight devils when he tried to infiltrate the mine, forces Jubei to work for him. Dakuan wants Jubei to stop the shogun of the dark from getting the gold, but the eight devils won't allow it." Pretty complicated for a ninja movie, huh? My only complaint is that the plot was explained too quickly in the movie and was hard to understand until you see the scene where they explain the plot about 10 times. I have made it easier to understand for you, though, so enjoy!

Another great thing about this movie is the characters. The eight devils are SO awesome with their cool powers. My favorite is a guy who can travel through shadows and uses a big metal claw which he impales his victims with. Another cool guy is this master swordsman who is blind, but uses it to his advantage - he has a sword that shines very brightly to blind his victims before he kills them. The other six are also very cool, but those two are my favorite. Enough about the awesome villains, Jubei has got to be the coolest guy in anime. For a deadly ninja, he is actually very polite and he keeps his cool under pressure. But now for a few words of wisdom: pissing off jubei is like hitting a bee hive with a baseball bat. Whatever you do, be nice to Jubei. Making him really mad is a death sentence.

Animation is nice, but not top-notch. I also liked the sound effects in the sword fights; hearing a sword hitting another sword at high speeds is like music to my ears. Taking all things into consideration, I must say this is the best action anime movie ever made and I highly recommend buying it.
