Jarod sends Miss Parker, Sydney
and Broots to Kansas. When they left the State and they reach the coordinates
Jarod has given to them, they find a scarecrow with a yellow brick and an
address.
Jarod is in a snack bar
somewhere, when a woman enters. She seems as though she's running away. Jarod
helps her to escape. Then, he follows her to her car and, when a man shows up,
she has to accept him in her car and drive off. The man is a cop. The girl asks
Jarod what he does and he tells her that he is an investment banker. Jarod is
worried, because they are running from the police, but she explains him that the
cop is an ex-boyfriend that didn't take well when they broke up. They introduce
themselves: her name is Zoe.
Miss Parker, Sydney and Broots
arrive to the address in the brick. They are received by a dwarf that calls her
"Dorothy". When they enter the warehouse, he gives them flashlights
and tells them to follow the yellow brick road. During
the trip, Zoe e Jarod arrive to a place where a couple of girls is selling
lemonades. Zoe remembers how she used to do that with her sister. Then, she
gives each girls two notes of $100 and she tells Jarod that she wanted to see
how it feels to see a dream come true. Jarod and Zoe fight when he questions her
about all the money she has in a box, thinking that she stole it. Zoe says that
the money is all the savings she has, and goes on, saying that she left the cop
because he hit her. Jarod leaves the car in a gas station. While he is waiting
for a bus, another cop comes up and arrests Zoe, because she's being looked for
as a criminal. Jarod goes to the police station, posing as a cop. After tricking
the man who arrested her, saying that he's taking Vince's turn (her
ex-boyfriend), Jarod is able to take her with him. They make it just in time,
because Vince was arriving to the front door. When they stop, Jarod changes her
plate, so the police won't find them. During the conversation that follows,
Jarod tells her that he is looking for his family. Zoe says that she's separated
from her family too, but by option. She says that she only misses her
grandmother and her twin sister, Katie. Zoe decides to teach Jarod what a road
trip is. Miss Parker,
Sydney and Broots find a "GI Joe" in a tree, while they are walking
through the yellow brick road. The doll has a "B" engraved in its boot
and, because of that, Broots knows that this was his doll. He remembers a moment
in particular, when he was sick and the doll was his only friend. Jarod
and Zoe stop and she changes her cloths. Jarod asks her why she did it and, when
they arrive to her grandmother's house, he understands why. At her
grandmother's, Zoe introduces Jarod as her husband. Inside, Zoe finds her sister
with her husband, who she didn't know. Despite the dark cloud that is in the
room, Zoe's sister is trying to make conversation. So, she asks what Jarod does.
Zoe answers that Jarod is an aeronautical engineer and, by coincidence, her
brother in law does the same. Zoe is thinking is regretting what she said, but
Jarod saves the moment, by answering some technical question, of course. Still
following the yellow bricks, is Syd's turn to remember a moment of his life.
They find a vinyl record with the music "Les Mots D'Amour". Sydney
tells how his father made his brother, Jacob and him listen to it, while he
danced with his mother. The record was lost in the war.
At Zoe's grandmother's again,
Jarod is seeing some pictures, and then her grandmother explains that after
Katie's death, Zoe ran away from her family. In the bedroom, Jarod asks Zoe why
is so important that her family thinks that she's something when, in fact, she
is not. Zoe answers him that she only wants her grandmother to think that she
has finally straighten her life and that she found happiness. While Zoe is in
the bathroom, Jarod finds some prescriptions and discovers that Zoe has cancer.
He then tells her that she has to do the treatments, but she tells him that she
isn't going to do them. She then asks him not to tell anything to her
grandmother. Back at the
warehouse, Miss Parker finds a picnic basket with a thimble in it. The, Miss
Parker remembers a day when she was "stuck" with her parents in her
house, because of a storm. They didn't have nothing to do, so they played
Monopoly. Her father was the shoe, her mother was the car and she was the
thimble. They find out that the message they have to tell the dwarf is
"there's no place like home". Although they are correct, the dwarf
wants them to say that another time, but with the shoes clicking. Miss Parker
has had enough, threatens him and leaves.
Jarod and Zoe are leaving her
grandmother's house. They say goodbye, and even though Zoe's grandmother doesn't
notice, she's saying goodbye like that was the last time. Zoe thanks Jarod for
not having said anything about her disease to her grandmother.
Back at The
Centre, Miss Parker,
Sydney and Broots find a replica of a witch, and because it looks a little like
Miss Parker, she takes it as a compliment. Then, she tosses water in it and it
melts, leaving another brick in its place. Broots holds it and reads
"return to scarecrow". Jarod
and Zoe are reaching to a motel, after being at a fair. Zoe sees a nearby pool
and decides to swim. Jarod is not very comfortable with it, because he doesn't
have a bathing suit, but Zoe tells him that she doesn't have one also and goes
into the water. Jarod follows her. In the next morning, Zoe handcuffs Jarod to
the bed and leaves. When she reaches her car, Vince arrives. While she's trying
to talk to him, Jarod has removed the handcuffs and meets them. It's now Vince's
turn to handcuff Jarod. And after a brief fight (that Jarod wins), Zoe leaves,
leaving them both behind. In a cliff, Zoe is thinking about jumping. Jarod shows
up and tells her that he knows that her sister Katie died there. Zoe says that
it was her fault, because she was the one to tell Katie about the cliff, and
that she deserves to die now. Jarod convinces her not to jump and promises that
he is going to help her to fight the cancer. Miss
Parker, Sydney and Broots are back at the scarecrow. Apparently, nothing has
changed, but the scarecrow is now wearing red shoes. In its pocket, Sydney finds
a card with the message "There's no place like home. Everyone deserves it.
So why don't you leave me alone and let me find mine."
Zoe is at her grandmother's
again with all her family. She's saying goodbye to Jarod. She knows he can't
say. They kiss and Zoe goes back to her family, holding her nephew in her arms.
Jarod leaves, sad.
