Pokemon Gold/Silver Walkthrough
Part 1
Pokéíon Gold & Silver Help

Start - Wakaba Town
You start out the game by setting the game's internal clock. After that Oak will explain the world of Pokéíon again and then
you will get to choose your name.

Finally you'll start out in your room, head downstairs to have a talk with your mom. She'll ask what day it is and then give
you your Pokéçear.

Like Red, Blue, and Yellow, head next door to meet the local Professor. His name is Professor Utsugi and after a talk will let
you choose one of three starting Pokéíon: Chikorita the grass Pokéíon, Hinoarashi the fire Pokéíon, or Waninoko the
water Pokéíon.

After choosing your starter Pokéíon Utsugi will tell you that the machine in the corner heals Pokéíon.

Next head outside and start exploring.

Professor Oak & Pokéäex
Next you'll want to try to find Professor Oak. You'll pass through a city called Yoshino City to get to him.

When you first enter the city talk to the old man below you. He will show you the town and then give you a Map card for
your PokéÇear when you go into his house and talk to him again.

You'll eventually find him since one of the paths is blocked by two battling trainers. Oak will introduce himself and then give
you a high-tech version of the Pokéäex.

You'll rest for the night, and in the morning Utsugi calls you and tells you to come back to Wakaba Town, something has
happened.

Your Rival
Someone has stolen one of Utsugi's Pokéíon, and just your look it's the one that has the advantage
over yours. Well, it looks like you just found your new rival.

Head back and talk with Professor Utsugi to see what was going on. You'll then name your Rival.

On your way out of the Lab, the Scientist at the bottom will give you 5 Pokéâalls.

When you exit the city a man will want to show you how to use your new Pokéâalls to catch Pokéíon.

Kikyou City Gym
After battling and capturing some of the new and old Pokéíon you'll be ready to take on the local
gym leader, Hayato. He uses bird Pokéíon and is not difficult to defeat.

Togepi - Kikyou City PokéÃenter
After defeating Hayato, a Scientist will show up in the Kikyou City PokéÃenter. Talk to him and he will give you an Egg
(you must have one slot open for it in your Pokéíon lineup.)

The Egg will hatch after you walk so many steps and turn into Togepi. There is a man blocking the most southern exit of this
town and if you don't get Togepi you can't get through.

There's also a house in Kikyou that you can trade a Bellsprout for a level 3 Onix.

Annon Ruins
Next you can head west of Kikyou City and run into a cave entrance. Inside will be a puzzle that you have to put together.

Once you discover it was Kabuto, the floor will drop out and down you will fall into the cave below. Inside are a bunch of
Pokéíon called Annon. They have no gender, but they do have many different shapes. Don't get confused though, they all
have the same Pokéäex entry.

Route 32
Next you'll encounter a lone PokéÃenter in Route 32. Inside is a Fishing Guru, talk to him and you'll get yourself an Old
Fishing rod.

Continue on and you'll pass through a tunnel with Trainers and rock Pokéíon inside.

"Slowpoke Town"
After exiting the tunnel you'll find Team Rocket guarding a well and the local Gym. Well it seems that Team Rocket has
kidnapped all the Slowpokes from the town.

First you'll need to talk to the man in the house right above the Gym. He'll move the Rocket member guarding the well. Next
it's your turn to defeat the Rocket members. Once defeated, the Gym will open and you'll be able to fight Tsukushi.

"Slowpoke Town" Gym
Tsukushi uses 3 Bug Pokéíon. So if you choseHinoarashi as your starter Pokéíon you will really

After him you will see a bird Pokéíon by itself. Chase it around until it reaches the man by the cut-able bush. Talk to the
new man and he will give you Cut.

Now Cut that cut-able bush to get on to the next town. A new feature in Gold/Silver is that you can just go up to the bush,
press A, and it will get cut down if you have a Pokéíon with Cut in your lineup. The same goes for Boulders, and that Tree
that will come up later.

******************

Kogane City Gym - Badge 3
Kogane City is pretty big. The local PokéÍart is like the Celadon Department Store. There's
plenty to due, but let's get down to business. It's the Gym Leader's badge you want, isn't it?

All the trainers use Normal Pokéíon in the Kogane City Gym. Right before Akane there is a
trainer who likes to use Jigglypuff, 3 to be exact. So you might want to stop at the PokéÃenter to
wake up any Pokéíon before taking on Akane.

Akane won't give you the Regular badge at first. Talk to her again after you talk with the trainer
below her.

In the radio station at Kogane, there is someone at the far end of the counter. She has a
five question quiz for you. Answer yes, yes, no, yes, no. In other words, the higher
answer, higher answer, lower answer, etc... You'll get a Radio for your PokéÇear.

The Game Corner in Kogane City requires the coin case like in the previos versions. In
Kogane are two buildings that have an underground tunnel that connect to each other.
There are a few trainers there, but, if you find a PokéÂall down there, it'll contain the coin
case. Now you can take your case and go gambling.

Also, there's a bike shop in Kogane, just talk to the guy and he'll give you a free bike.

"Entomology Zone"
If you talk to the guy inside the next watch station that looks like a Safari Zone warden, you'll get to do something like the
Safari Zone but you can only encounter Bug Pokéíon.

Some other differences:

1.You get to catch 1 Pokéíon.
2.Press start and the round is over.
3.It's free.
4.You get 20 silver Pokéâalls.
5.There are no Rocks, or Bait, but you can battle with the Pokéíon in your first slot.

This Bug Catcher's Tournament is only held on Tuesday (Kayoobi), Thursday (Mokuyoobi), and Saturday (Doyoobi).

Caterpie, Metapod, Butterfree, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Venonat, Pinsir, and Scyther are the Pokéíon that I've seen in
there. What's weird is that you can find level 17 Caterpies and Weedles.

Route 26 - Usocky the Wiggling Tree

After the third Gym there was a house right outside the gym. Inside a girl will give you
Squirtle Water to sprinkle on the tree to wake it up and fight you. Remember there's only
one, so be ready to catch it.
Enjyu City

"A Ghost Town"
After Usokki you will reach Enjyu City. After stopping by the local PokéÃenter to heal your Pokéíon you have can take on
the local gym leader, Matsuba.

It would have been handy to have a Kadabra by now.

Enjyu City Gym - Badge 4
There is a ghost floor surface which continually has you falling through, but to get to the other
side, you must walk directly forward in front of a gym trainer, then walk directly left/right, but
before reaching the edge, walk directly up in front of another trainer.

The Gym Leader uses all Ghost Pokéíon so a Psychic like Kadabra or Drowzee will come in handy
here.

Matsuba will give you the Phantom Badge for winning. All Pokéíon up to level 50 will obey you
now.

Two more things to do here. Inside the town there is a man with five daughters. Each daughter has an Eevee

will give you HM03, Surf.

The House

HM03 - Surf

The Tower
Once you enter the Tower your Rival will fight you. If you
have that Kadabra, now is the time to use it.

Once your Rival is defeated and leaves, it's time to explore
the rest of the tower. It's forever dark in my game now, so I
fought some Rattata, the occasional Gastly, Koffing, and
Magmar!

If you taught TM08 to one of your Pokemon, now it is time
to use it. (Remember TM08 is given to you by the fat man
that was looking at Usocky - the wigglying tree.)

Fight the trainer and you can fall down the whole in the
middle. Go up to the stone statues and they will awaken,
then scatter. These are the Three Legendary dogs, Raikou
(electric type), Entei (fire type), and Suikun (water type).
You may run into them later on in the game (in the wild), so
be prepared.

Next head west battling some more trainers and finding
new Pokéíon like Buru (Snubble). Then go south to Asagi

guys inside and you'll get HM04.

Mikan needs Medicine

The Tower
Next head to the Tower that is southeast in the
town. Scale to the top battling trainers and you'll
find Mikan. She'll ask that you get some medicine for
her sick Pokéíon.

You'll get that later, but first, time to surf to Taban
City.

This whole will get you to the top

Taban City

Where is Taban?
Taban City can be reached by surfing from Asagi City. You'll encounter a lot of Tentacool
and Tentacruel on the way. Not to mention a few trainers.

Taban City Gym - Badge 5
Heal your Pokéíon at the local Center then head off to fight the Gym Leader.

Again, Kadabra comes in handy.

Mikan's two Magnemites shouldn't give you that much trouble, especially if you grabbed a
Geodude earlier in the game.

The new steel type Pokéíon, Haganail, is five levels higher, but you should still be able to
take it out.

Once you beat Mikan, the Steel Badge is yours.

do first.

Head north battling trainers and new Pokéíon until you
reach a lake with a Gold Gyarados in it. Surf out to the
middle and fight it. There's only one, so you better catch
it!

Level 30 Gyarados

Lance

Hey, it's Lance!
After catching the Golden Gyarados you'll see Lance
standing by a sign. Talk to him and he will tell you he
needs help, Choju Town has a secret Rocket base that
needs to be demolished. So answer yes to his question,
he'll fly off, then go back to Choju Town.

Answer Yes

Choju Town "Store"

The "Store"
If you head to the middle of the town where a guy is
selling things, you'll find Lance inside. He'll show you
the secret door to Team Rocket's hideout.

Make sure your Pokéíon are strong, a lot of Team
Rocket members will go at you in here.

Down Here!

Team Rocket Hideout - Level 1

This map looks peacful, right? WRONG. Every so often two Team Rocket members will come and fight you. But don't worry,
all they have is either Zubat, Grimer, and Rattata, or a Drowzee and a Zubat.

Remember to pick up everything, there's hidden key cards that you'll need later. Even search bookshelves and computer
stands.

Team Rocket Hideout - Level 2

Lance will talk to you when you get to level 2. Look on that computer there when you get to it.

Team Rocket Hideout - Level 3

When you get the key to open up the door where the main Rocket boss is, defeat him then talk to the bird.

Then head back to the 2nd level, and open up the door. Fight some more, then fight the Electrodes.

Once outside Lance will thank you and give you HM06, whirlpool. What this does is destroys whirlpools so you can get
passed (mostly to get to Lugia)

Choju Town Gym - Badge 7
Yanagi uses Ice Pokéíon. If you picked up a Magmar from earlier, he'd be useful right around
now.

After beating Yanagi, you'll get the Ice Badge.

Before heading on, you'll have to backtrack. Professor Utsugi calls you to tell you Kogane
City has been taken over by Team Rocket.

Head back to Kogane City for more Rocket fun.

Team Rocket - Radio Tower
The other floors of the Radio Tower that were not accessible before, now are.
Unfortunately these floors are reeking of Rocket.

The first part of this chore is easy enough. Just fight all the Rocket's and make it up to the
top. You'll see a locked door on the third floor, but this will be opened later.

Beat the main Rocket leader at the top of the Tower. He'll give you a key that will unlock
that strange blue door that was locked in the underground passage of Kogane.

Next you will have to press switches to open doors and

eventually you'll make it to the female Rocket Trainer at
the bottom.

After you beat her you'll find 3 guys stuck on the
bottom floor of the Kogane Deptartment Store. Talk to
them all and one will give you a card key to unlock that
door that I said we'd unlock later.

Go unlock the door and beat the rest of the Rockets
including the male and female Team Rocket leaders.

Next head back to Choju Town and enter the Ice Cave.

Ice Cave

Icy Mazes
The Ice Cave shouldn't be too hard to get through. There is only one real
tricky part, but PikachuPikablu made this map to help you get through it.

You'll find some new Pokéíon in here, a small mammoth like thing called
Urimuu. There's also a shy bird called Deribaato.

Follow the Red Arrow Road

HM07 - Waterfall
You can find the last HM, HM07 in the Ice Cave. This HM lets you ride up waterfalls.

HM07

Fusube City

TM or HM, Be gone!

Say yes!
There is a guy in Fusube City that will erase TM's or
HM's from your Pokéíon. Just talk to him and he will
ask which move you want deleted.

This is very useful since the HM's in this game are
used more regularly. So having all the required
Pokéíon at the same time with these moves and
having your normal fighting Pokéíon is hard to do. So
eventually you'll give in and teach one of your good
Pokéíon an HM. But don't worry you can delete it
later!

(Krabby can learn Cut, Surf, Strength, and Rock
Breaker, though)

My Kadabra had to learn Flash

Fusube City Gym - Badge 8

Before battling Ibuki there will be a small puzzle where you
have to push 3 Rocks into holes to make paths over the
molten lava below. Not to mention trainers to fight.

But eventually you'll make it to Ibuki. Her Dragon
Pokéíon can be taken out with Electric attacks, like
Denryuu's Thunder Punch. Kingudora looks like it evolves
from Seadra, but again Electric attacks will take it out.

After defeating Ibuki, you won't get a badge. First you

bring along your Pokéíon that has HM06 equipped. Once you find the lone Pokéâall and pick it up, Ibuki will come along
and give you the Raging Badge. Now all Pokéíon will obey you. She'll also give you TM24.

Now, go back to Wakaba Town and talk to Utsugi.

Wakaba Town

Professor Utsugi
When you get back in Wakaba Town talk to Utsugi and he will give you the Master Ball!

Now that you have this, you can go catch Houou (Gold) or Lugia (Silver). But I wouldn't use the Master Ball just yet on one
of these.

Houou - Gold Version
Houou is really easy to find compared to Lugia. Go back to Enjyu City and go into the northern house. Go in all the stairs
and you'll eventually come to a tower. Go inside and go to the top and you'll find Houou.

You better save your game before fighting Houou, because like Mewtwo, there is only one. Houou is only level 40 so using
the Master Ball isn't a good idea.

[No pictures because I'm playing Silver]

Lugia - Silver Version

Lugia swimming
Lugia is a little harder to get. You'll need a Pokéíon with
Surf, one with Whirlpool, and one with Flash to get to
Lugia.

Go to Asagi City and surf south trying to stay as far to
the right as you can. There is 4 entrances to the cave
where Lugia is so if you follow the wall the first one you
come to is the one you need to enter.

Once inside go to the right and choose the top path
when it comes to a fork. Now you'll make your way to a
waterfall, go down it, then surf up and you should find
Lugia swimming in the water.

Lugia is also level 40 and will give you 1257 experience
points if you beat him. But DON'T, what are you crazy
or something!? Again, using the Master Ball at this time
isn't wise.

If you wanted to know, Lugia learns Hydro Pump at
level 44.

Lugia wants to fight!

Pokéíon League
Now head back to Wakaba Town and get ready to advance to the Pokéíon League.

But first make sure you have a Pokéíon with Surf and Waterfall. And heal all your Pokéíon in Utsugi's Lab.

Next it's time to surf east from Wakaba Town.

Route 27

Map Card

Get your Map Card
Talk to the fat guy when you reach dry land. He'll give you a new map card expansion that
has the map of the original Pokéíon World from Red, Blue, & Yellow.

Next you'll enter a cave that has a waterfall. Surf up it and then down the other side to get
out of the cave.

Next you'll surf east some more and encounter more trainers when you reach land. There's
new Pokéíon to catch and trainers to fight.

Before heading onwards, there is a house with a woman who will heal all your Pokéíon
for you.

Head north and you'll eventually reach Victory Road.

Victory Road

Almost there...
Eventually you'll make it to the "other half" of Victory Road. This half is much more easier
because there are no trainers and no puzzles.

But there are a lot of Pokéíon in there that will give you grief if your Pokéíon are not
leveled high enough. Graveler, Onix, Rhyhorn, Golbat, and a giant bear named Ringuma
(there's a large ring on it's stomach) are what you will find in here.

Strangely enough, when I was playing and leveling up my Pokéíon before I battled the
Elite Four, I ran into a shining silver Rhyhorn. I don't know what's so special, but
whenever it goes into battle it sparkles like the Golden Gyarados, and as you can see in its
stats, it has 3 stars next to it's gender like the Golden Gyarados.

Silver Rhyhorn

Perfect Place to Level Up
The Pokéíon in Victory Road are perfect for leveling up your Pokéíon before the Elite
Four. The Graveler give you experience points in the 600's, Onix in the 500's, Rhyhorn
in the 600's, Golbat in the 700's, and Ringuma in the 800's.

The best place to do this is at the end of Victory Road where the exit is because you
can go up to Indigo Plateau to heal your Pokéíon. But before you reach the end your
Rival will battle you one more time.

Now when your Pokéíon are about level 50 or so I think it is a good time to take on
