Just about everybody knows of MissingNo. We have learened many codes form this strange Pokemon. Actually it's just a glitch. MissingNo. has so many questions, it's asked me to put up this. here is the Ultimate MissingNo. page!
first, let's start off with the code:
MissingNo. And High Level Pokemon
To do this, you must FLY to Viridian City. Talk to the guy who?s had his coffee twice. Say yes, then No. Then FLY to Cinnabar Island and SURF on the right side in the half-land/water part. In my experiences I?ve seen Magnemites, Muks, Porygons, and Hypnos over 100. MissingNo. and it?s look-a-like will appear, too. But I suggest not catching them.
Now onward. MissingNo. is a definate glitch. Here are some of my experiances, and know-how, of this glitch:
1) I tried to catch a MissingNo. End result: I had to restart my game, and lost 143 Pokemon. MissingNo. makes all the battle graphics screwy. The only way to cure your game is to restart it.
2) I have done the item duplication many, many times(over 300!), and nothing but my Hall of Fame screwed up. Many people say that this has ruined their game, but for me it has had no effect.
3) MissingNo. is the result of the game, not the makers of it. When the game picks a Pokemon to show you, it serches for the number of the area your at. Then, it finds another number via that #, but, in MissingNo. and M' Block (MissingNo.'s look-a-like) cases, it find a different number that it can't identify, but uses it anyway. This is also the reason you get pictures for your items over 99, including the dancing flower.
4) As many of you know, you can get High Level Pokemon with a version of this code (there are 2 ways to get MissingNo. besides Gameshark). There is a way to figure out wich Pokemon will show up. Notice: you can battle trainers with this knowledge, too!
The name you give yourself and your rival is the key. For instance, I named myself Pokeman and my rival Loser, and it came up with Porygons and Magnemites. here's how it works. For a better interpretation, go to visit the UPNetwork:
First pick a name (must be 3+ letters or else you get no Pokemon!).
Start with the name, case sensitive: MICHAEL
Forget about the first letter: ICHAEL
Break remaining letters into pairs: IC HA EL
Find letter/symbol values:
80-99 (hex) = A-Z (alphabetically)
9A = (
9B = )
9C = :
9D = ;
9E = [
9F = ]
A0-B9 (hex) = a-z (alphabetically)
We now have (after finding values): (88 82) (87 80) (84 8B)
The first value in each pair is the level (convert from hex to decimal)
The second value in each pair is the pokémon value (use a list for this one)
So, we end up with: (136 Golbat) (135 Golduck) (132 Cloyster), the exact levels and species of pokémon they ran into when doing the trick.
Note that this was taken form http://mew.upnetwork.com. I have no clue about how to read the numbers for levels, but some Gameshark info will help, as soon as I find where I put it...
Here is a short F&Q for those wondering:
Q: Should I catch MissingNo.?
A: NEVER! Catching one will almost always screw up your game.
Q: Should I SEE a MissingNo.?
A: Sometimes yes, sometimes no. MissingNo. can do many things:
1. Give you 130 of the item in your sizth spot (only for items that have numbers)
2. Screw up your Hall of Fame. It will give you wierd Stats, Pokemon, Pics, Sounds, and Pokemon you never used to beat the Elite Four (including Mew, which will be discussed later).
3. Screw up your game, with no hope of making it normal, accept for reseting it. This is a big argument. We KNOW this will happen if you catch one, but it dpends if you don't. Many people on this board said it screwed up their game or a friend's (such as PikaOhki ). In my experiance, I have seen it 200+ times, and all it has done is screwed up my Hall of Fame. Note: Remember, this is done at your own risk.
Q: What happens if I catch one?
A: 2 things, but first, let's go to the next question.
Q: How do I get MissingNo.?
A: I could see why you want to, but it can screw up your game. There are 2 ways.
1. Trade with someone in your game, then FLY to Cinnibar and surf on the right side on the half land/half water part.
2. Talk to the guy who's had too much coffee and say No. Then repeat as above, beggining with the word FLY.
Now on to our Q before last. If you used the first method, it will just say you catched it and screw up your game. If you used the second, it will say you caught, but you will still be in battle. You will now be fighting a Ditto. (This is the Same for M') Note: Some sites say you can use this to duplicate Pokemon. It DOES NOT WORK!
Q: Why is there a wierd M' thingy instead of MissingNo.?
A: Ah, yes. The M' thingy. To some it is known as that, to others M' Block Chip. We'll just call it M'. To tell the truth, I have no clue how this came to be. Probably the same as stated earlier:
4) MissingNo. is the result of the game, not the makers of it.
Q: Does MissingNo. or M' evolve?
A: In fact, yes. They both evolve into Kangaskhan by going up just one level. One gameshark code is to get the pre-stage of Kangaskhan, Roton, but it's the same as having a MissingNo.
Q: Can I make my game normal if I catch one?
A: Not fully. If you release it without having another battle, it will help some. But the only way to get back to normal is to reset your game.
Q: Why do trainers pop up?
A: Trainers. Delightful little Pokemon. Anyway, as you may know, using the right name allows you to fight trainers, such as using the name John (My friend did this (I saw it happen) and I think he used John as his name.)
Q: I don't get any high level Pokemon. Why?
A: You must have a name with 3 or more letters. Nmaes such as TK or Ri don't get any.
I think that covers the F&Q section. In ending I will give a list names and their results below:
