Chapter 6
Shades
of
Autumn

15, 1944 - Deep in a
French
Forest, After a long bitter struggle behind enemy lines
the remnants of German Tiger Tank Platoon S35 managed to survive by
conducting hit and run tactics on their more overwhelming adversaries.
Using woods for cover and scavenging fuel and parts from other destroyed or abandoned
vehicles the tank crew kept their machine running. Their tank
still wears the scars of war which includes a damaged engine and one
functional fuel tank. With Montgomery forces in the North of France,
Bradley's in the middle, and Patton down south, They like other German
troop units have been out flanked and surrounded. With constant back and
forth clashes, the front lines remained questionable except to those who have
perished in them. Fritz, Volker, and Ferdinand realized that the only
chance they have to survive is to punch through the enemy lines to rejoin
their army . For this reason they decided not to abandon their Tiger as of yet. Their Command realizing the desperate need
for armor decided to send badly needed supplies such as support infantry,
ammo, fuel, and food to rendezvous with S35.
Hitler in Berlin was
planning a big surprise for the allied armies in the winter. With
this in mind the tale continues.
p1-Clank, Clankity, Clank Clankity,
Squisssh. Obsterstrumfuhrer (tank commander) Fritz- "Halt!!, This
is the place for our rendezvous." Volker- "Kapitan, do you
really think anyone is really coming with our supplies?"
P2- Ferdinand- "I agree sir, Even if
command sent us those supplies there is no guarantee that they will reach
us." Volker-" He is right, I say lets dump this metallic cow.
The war is as good as lost anyhow. I have done enough fighting.
Why don't we go and hide out in the woods until all this blows over?"
Fritz-"WAA, WAAA, WaAA What am I in command of here? A bunch of cry
babies! This tank is the only thing that's keeping us alive. It dies, we
die. If we abandon it (tank) now, we would have to make it back
through enemy lines on foot. That means less food supplies then we
have not to mention having to fight our way past Patton. Then if we
make it, are you going to explain to command that we abandoned this tank,
against order's." Volker-"Sir we can always tell them it went Kaputt!"
Fritz-" Volker, Hide in the woods? What are a nature boy or something.
We are going to wait here, you have the first watch!."
P3 Three hours later "Vroom"
Panzer
grenadiers Gunther and lutz, enroute to the rendezvous point.
P4 Fritz-" Volker I hear a motor,
Get your rifle ready just in case!"
P5 Crew-Clapp, Clapp,Clapp, Ferdinand- "They
made it , they made it" Fritz { with a sign of worry on his
face}-"All I see is a wagon, with two men, no supplies. I am going to
talk to these guys."
P6 Lutz-"Obsterstrumfuhrer, I am Panzer
grenadier Lutz and this is Gunther. We are part of what's left of your
replacements.
We have a Berge Panzer not to far behind
carrying your supplies. We had a Hanomag with an infantry platoon and a
new gunner and loader for you as you requested, But we were caught by
Amerikaner Sherman tanks. The infantry group gave their lives so that we
and the berge panzer can make our escape."Fritz-" What about the
hanomag,Loader&Gunner."Gunther- Sir, they were destroyed,
Oberstrumfuhrer these are the plans for the engine overhaul that you
requested. The berge panzer has a mechanic crew."
