#11- Late that day the armor platoon prepares to
depart for the station. Borger fires up the Kettenkrad. Grenadier
Shultz-Say Borger- "You left your Sturmgewehr (assault rifle)
inside." Borger- "That's ok, because I have Greta my lucky
luger."
#12- Early morning the Platoon moves towards the
railroad station. It is constantly interrupted by heavy enemy aircraft
formations. Fritz-"Ferdinand, keep her in the trees I hear another
flock of bombers." Volker- "The Amerikana sure have a lot
of planes flying around today." Fritz- "Ja Ja, They have
been blowing up Calais off the map." Shultz-"Calais! those
explosions we heard earlier sounded a lot closer to me." Fritz-
"Ja Ja, They probably had to much Englanta gin last night and got
lost." All crew-"hahahaha."
#13 As day breaks on the 7 June 1944, the armor
platoon moves rapidly through a field with a very cautious eye at the crowded
sky. They hear massive explosions emanating from the direction of
Normandy.
#14 Fritz- "Something is going on here
in Normandy, if it isn't for those blasted orders I would turn this tank
around and head for the beach."
#15 They Continue on scheduled course.
