What's The Connection ???

Paul Goeltz, Founder of The Cookie Nexus, has been in the cookie making business since 1989 when he and a friend were looking for something to sell in the parking lots of the Grateful Dead concerts they were attending. Although now cooking solo, he has built considerable name recognition for his cookie enterprise because of their distinctive taste and his "big mouth".

"I really enjoy selling the cookies, the interaction with the people," he proclaims. "I know that there's a lot of people who really like the cookie and you feed off that, and they feed off that. I think a lot of people feed on me sometimes, because I'm out there just yelling and screaming. There have been times when I'm out there, and I'm not even yelling anything, and the people know, 'That's him, that's Paul, that's where you get the cookies.' It's fun. It's a real high. I'm really into what I do."
Many of the long-time food vendors have created signs to advertise their food, but few are as colorful as Paul's. When his cookies began to take off, Paul realized that he needed a logo, some recognizable symbol, so a friend created a clown sign for him. Since then a yellow, purple, and black clown wearing a jester's hat has become his trademark.

"People have to recognize you," he explains. "At the time I was going through a period of beards, long hair, short hair, and different stages of freakiness. People were never real sure if it was me, except for my voice, so I felt the need to have something so people could associate that sign with where you could find the goods. A lot more people know what spot I'm in and they head right there. Often the first thing you see is that stupid clown sign," he laughs. And now, here it is almost 1998, I'm still selling at a few concerts, but nothing like before. I've also teamed up with myself(a trazdone company) and they distribute my cookies from Santa Rosa to Monterey. All I can say is there's nothing like selling in a Dead parking lot! That has been and always will be,the best fun I ever had...Thank You all for the time of my life.......Paul Catflinger Goeltz."The Very Reverend"
