Ten-year-old Otis liked the out-of-doors,
And used to help Mr. Palmer with his chores
Now, this was no place of distinct charm,
As Mr. Palmer ran a pig farm
One day Otis's folks did let `im go to Lawson,
With Mr. Palmer, to the pig auction
Mr. Palmer loaded a dozen grunts, One of which was a puny runt
Mr. Palmer was talkin' to some men in th' stand,
They kept pointing to that little pig, and called him "Titman"
The auctioneer told Mr. Palmer, says he hates t'tell `im,
But that little pig, he just can't sell `im
Otis says, "Well, what'cha gonna do with `im"?
Mr. Palmer says he'll just make a stew with `im
Otis put up quite a spat, says he'll have none of that
Otis was a animal lover, from the word "go"
And I wan'cha t'know, he stood by the trailer rig,
| And begged Mr. Palmer t'give `im that pig |
That night, when his wife was doin' th' dishes, |
He says that against his best wishes, |
He hopes folks won't take a big notice, |
But looks like he's gotta give that pig to Otis |
Then Otis's folks, Mr. Palmer did talk to, |
Said Otis was at th' auction walk-through |
This pig, he just couldn't sell `im, |
And Otis did tell `im, that he'd sure like t'have it |
And I hate t'tell `im "No", dag nabb it |
Otis had all sorts of pets, and you have to understand, |
His folks hardly ever rejected one
But now, he comes home with a pig named "Titman", |
And they figure it's not a very selective one |
But Otis wins out, and makes hisself a pin out |
of chicken wire and plywood |
But it didn't look nothin' like a sty should |
And Titman was always gettin' out, and roamin' about, |
As though he was a dog, and not a hog |
And older kids would jump at the chance, |
When that pig would prance, |
To take special notice, to tell Otis, |
To come pick up his pet, and it's a sure bet, |
They would refer to his pet, by its name |
