Actor's History
Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor James Brolin returns to series television as the star of Pensacola: Wings of Gold, a weekly action hour making its premiere in September of 1997.
Brolin portrays Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kelly U.S.M.C, the series central character. A tough, fearless war hero, Kelly has made his career and his name - as a top gun fighter pilot, who shoots for the sky and stops at nothing. Unexpectedly and somewhat reluctantly, he finds he's been named to a new position by Colonel Rebecca Hodges (Brynn Thayer), his supervisor at the world-famous base. Kelly's assignment is to take a band of talented, energetic, determined young people, hand-picked by Hodges for their special unique skills, and turn them into an unequalled, united crisis task force.
Brolin, the recipient of an Emmy and two Golden Globe Awards, is one of television's best-known, most-popular stars. His wide-reaching acting credits range from tightly-written drama to big-scale action-adventure: he has also established himself as a director of dramatic series television and is taking on these duties for several episodes of Pensacola. While he has worked extensively in all television genres, Brolin is best known for his starring roles in two long-running series, Hotel and Marcus Welby, M.D. Most recently, he starred in the action adventure Extreme and the Western serial drama Angel Falls. Brolin's longform work includes Trapped, the highest rated telefilm of its season, and the CBS mini-series And the Sea Will Tell. He also hosted the ABC primetime wildlife reality series The World of Discovery. He directed numerous episodes of Hotel and the ensemble Western series The Young Riders.
Brolin's feature film work blends box-office blockbusters and prestigious smaller independent productions. He starred in such major films as Capricorn One; Westworld; The Amityville Horror, one of the highest-grossing independent films of all time, and Gable and Lombard (in which he portrayed Clark Gable). Brolin produced and starred in the critically-acclaimed independent film Cheatin' Hearts, and also starred in Allison Anders' well-received drama Gas Food Lodging. Brolin is currently directing his first feature, My Brother's War and is also starring in the Saban/Concorde project.
Pensacola marks James Brolin's return to dramatic series television, where he became one of the world's best-known and most-loved stars. Pensacola taps into other aspects of Brolin's multi-faceted career: a pilot in real life, he serves as one of the series' Executive Producers and will direct several of the first season's episodes.
