Part Two
“You can’t be serious Ramsey,” Eve Lambert huffed as she marched into the Chief Resident’s office.
“Problems Lambert?” he questioned with a curious brow looking up at her.
“I am not working a double shift here,” Eve announced slapping down her copy of the schedule on his desk, “you’re going to change that.”
“No, Eve, I’m not,” Chris shook his head in response, “you’ve had far enough vacation time here, so the way I see it, you can catch up on work.”
“It wasn’t vacation time you jerk. It’s called being kidnapped,” Eve huffed at him feeling her anger bubble.
“Yeah well that excuse might’ve worked the first half dozen times, but not anymore,” Chris stated simply, “you’re working, so deal with it.”
“That’s so not fair,” Eve pouted as her eyes narrowed at him.
“No Eve, what’s not fair is that doctors like Karen have been working more than what you’re being given here in an attempt to make up for the slack that you and Ian have had here. Karen’s been working nonstop around the clock since your little adventure and I think she deserves a break,” he replied giving her a stern look before a sly grin crossed over his features, “and besides she’s a friend of yours, so why wouldn’t you want her to have some peace and relaxation in her life?”
“I’m not saying that she can’t, but...”
“But it’s not your decision to make Eve,” Chris snapped at her before tossing her schedule back at her, “so face it. You’re working.”
“That’s it?” she asked watching him as he collected his things from his desk top.
“That’s it Eve,” he answered before standing up from his chair, “now if you’ll excuse me, I have some things to take care of.”
“Whatever,” Eve grumbled watching him turn towards the door to leave, “you know I’m just going to have Joe fill in my shift for me here.”
“No, you aren’t,” Chris stopped in his tracks turning around to face her, “and if you even try to swap with Joe, well, then I’ll see to it that you’ll be working your Saturday night away here at the hospital.”
“You’re such a jerk Ramsey,” Eve snapped at him as he opened the door motioning for her to get out, “I guess some things never change, do they?”
“I guess not,” Chris replied giving her a glare, “Eve Lambert can’t have her way so she wants to pout and stomp her feet about it in the hopes it‘ll change.”
“I don’t know what I ever saw in you,” Eve huffed as she collected her things and headed towards the door.
“You saw that I was easy to walk all over and when I agreed with you, you liked me, but your good old buddy Chris is gone,” he answered as she stood before him, “he’s been gone for a long time, so get out.”
“I know you’re not cruel and heartless like this Chris,” Eve started softening her tone, “ole buddy, ole pal.”
“Despite the flattery, you’re
still working Eve,” Chris said as she glared at him for a moment before
huffing and stepping out of his office. Chris chuckled to himself lightly
watching her stomp off. She still had a way of making irritating look sexy,
but enough about Eve for now, he had other things to take care of..namely
convincing Lucy that they should work together.
Lucy stepped off of the elevators and took in a breath as she walked through the halls of GH. She was not going to let her wounded pride get the best of her as she felt the eyes upon her. It had been a few days since Kevin had tore into her, but yet the wounds were still fresh in her mind as she felt the curious eyes upon her. Taking in a breath, she kept moving forward trying to force the hurt out of her mind and keep her focus on the heart of the matter. She was doing good as she passed by the nurse’s station with the obvious gossip going on, but as she walked around the corner, she came face to face with eyes she hadn’t planned on finding, eyes she’d dreamt about seeing, but now as he stood before her, they seemed so cold and distant.
“Excuse me,” Kevin said dismissively as he took a step to the left and walked around her as if she’d been nothing more than a stranger to him.
Lucy stood frozen for a moment before turning around to watch him walk on and she felt her heart sink. He hated her. She could see it in his eyes as she felt the sting of it all run through her. Her Doc, the only man she’d ever truly loved had nothing but contempt for her. In a matter of moments the love they’d rekindled had evaporated and she was left with a feeling of emptiness. She glanced over at him once more knowing that she should just keep going, that she should go do what she came here to do, but she was drawn to him. She found that she just couldn’t walk away as she changed direction and approached him.
“Doc,” she called out to him as she noticed his body tense up at the sound of her voice, “Doc, can I have a word with you?”
“I’m busy,” he said after a long moment not bothering to turn around and face her.
“Doc, I can see that, but if you’d only give me a moment to explain,” She started again.
“I think we’ve said all there is to be said here,” Kevin answered tightly as he looked to Colleen, “can you tell Dr. Baldwin that I’ll be in to see her after I finish up with a patient of mine?”
“Of course,” Colleen noted as Kevin collected his things and turned around to face Lucy. While his eyes were on her, Lucy felt that he was looking right through her as he said nothing and stepped forward.
“Doc,” Lucy began reaching out for his arm to stop him. He instantly froze before his eyes drifted to her hand upon the sleeve of his green thread jacket. His eyes remained fixed upon her fingers for a moment before his gaze traveled up to hers and she saw his cold, distant eyes.
“Let go of me Lucy,” he said tightly in a voice that Lucy had never quite heard before as she released him instantly fearing his response. Without another word, he walked past her leaving her with a feeling of emptiness far more than she’d ever known.
Lucy looked around the hallway
at the eyes upon her before clearing her throat. She tried to pretend not
to notice the way everyone was watching her. She held her purse close to
her as she stepped forward vowing to herself that she wouldn’t be broken
by all of this...that somehow fate would bring her back to the man she
loved so very much.
“Liv,” Chris called out as he saw Livvie up ahead near the coffee machine, “I’m so glad I caught you here.”
“Chris,” she replied a bit surprised as she turned around to face him, “What are you doing here?”
“I work here, remember?” he half smiled wondering why he’d spent so much time with Livvie to begin with as she wasn’t the sharpest of all characters, but in this particular scenario, she was going to do so much more for him than she had in the past.
“Oh yeah,” she smiled slightly swatting at her head in a swift motion, “duh.”
“Yeah duh,” Chris replied fighting the urge to roll his eyes as he watched her. God, why had he been so hard up to spend so much time with her to begin with? He must’ve really hit an all time low to think that his plans for Livvie could do anything for him in comparison to his latest and greatest plan of all. Dismissing the thought of just how perfect this was going to be, he tried to stay focused, “So how have you been holding up?”
“I’m okay,” Livvie explained lightly.
“It must be rough being at the lighthouse right now,” Chris said opening the conversation.
“It’s different,” Livvie admitted lightly, “it’s not like when I lived with Lucy.”
“Yeah, I’ll bet,” Chris nodded thinking about Lucy for a moment, “Speaking of which, why aren‘t you staying there anymore?”
“She lied to my father Chris,” Livvie offered up, “She hurt him and I can’t respect someone who does that.”
“Even after she put a roof up over your head for so long?” Chris noted.
“Lucy’s a horrible person Chris, but I was just too blind to see it before,” Livvie explained further as Chris looked across the cafeteria for a moment seeing exactly what he’d been hoping for, “why do you say that?”
“Think about it Chris. She lied to my father, lead him to believe that Eve was dead and she helped rip his heart out,” Livvie sighed running her fingers through her hair, “I mean it’s a wonder that I ever thought she and my father could’ve been soul mates like that.”
Chris let his eyes travel to Eve approaching. Oh yes, he smiled lightly, this would work out wonderfully, now if he could only bait Livvie just a bit further, “But I thought you’d said that you wanted your father with Lucy because they had a connection.”
“Well they did, and when Eve first ‘died‘ so to speak, well, he was taking it so hard and then I found him in the hotel room with her,” Livvie frowned thinking back, “he was all over her and she was defending him.”
“Let me get this straight as soon as Eve was dead, Kevin was all over Lucy,” Chris repeated raising his voice a bit knowing all too well that this one wouldn’t slip by, “and yet you’re upset with Lucy? It sounds to me like your father was the one initiating things.”
“In a way I suppose he was, but when I walked into the hotel room and he was on top of Lucy like that and her clothes were coming off like that....” Livvie started again.
“What did you just say?” Eve blurted out interrupting the two of them, “What did you just say about Kevin?”
“Eve,” Livvie gasped turning to her, “I..I didn’t know you were here.”
“I suppose you didn’t,” Eve replied feeling herself on edge as she looked to Livvie, “what did you say about Kevin?”
“Eve, this isn’t something to get into now,” Chris spoke up feigning innocence as he watched her features cloud over.
“Nothing,” Livvie shook her head, “I didn't say anything.”
“No, I clearly heard you say something about Kevin and Lucy. What was it?” Eve asked raising her voice a bit.
“Eve, come on. She said it was nothing,” Chris piped up again watching the tortured expression on Eve’s face.
“No Chris, it’s not nothing and I think it’s about time you stop defending her,” Eve huffed at him, “Livvie, what aren’t you telling me about my husband?”
“Eve, it’s just,” Livvie started looking to Chris with a pleading look.
“Eve really now is not the time,” Chris began again knowing Eve well enough to know that she wouldn’t like that answer either.
“Don’t tell me that Chris,” Eve huffed looking to Livvie, “what was it you said about Kevin and Lucy in her hotel room?”
“Eve, he was so lost during that time,” Livvie started as she turned to her stepmother, “he was hurting and...”
“And what Livvie?” Eve asked tightly.
“Eve, you really don’t want to get into this now,” Chris blurted out playing into the role of concerned friend oh so well, “I mean really, this isn’t the time or place.”
“Chris, I don’t really care what you think about this. Livvie is going to give me the answers that I want starting now,” Eve insisted turning her gaze towards Livvie expectantly.
Livvie gulped before looking to Chris for help in this situation silently pleading with him for help.
“I tried,” Chris shrugged lightly looking between the two women, “unfortunately when Eve has her mind set on something, she just doesn’t let go.”
“Good to see you haven’t forgotten that Ramsey, now,” she turned to Livvie as Chris felt a vibration at his side.
“What timing,” he thought to himself as he looked at his pager, “really I hate to leave now, but I have to take care of this.”
“You’ll be missed,” Eve rolled her eyes slightly.
“Well, you know what they say Eve,” Chris said giving her a once over, “you don’t know a good thing until it’s gone, but I’m pretty sure you’ll learn.”
“Not in your case,” she grumbled.
“Liar,” he chuckled to himself as he walked down the hallways thinking about how ‘unfortunate’ it was that he’d left Livvie alone with Eve. What ever would Livvie do in such a situation on her own? He had to laugh at himself a bit as he already knew that answer. Livvie was going to do exactly what he’d hoped she’d do and soon Eve would be searching for Kevin demanding answers. How ever would Livvie handle the pressure, he thought rolling his eyes slightly as he wondered yet again for the millionth time why he’d felt compelled to go through Livvie to get what he’d wanted. The direct approach would serve his purposes so much better as he was certain that everything he’d ever wanted would soon fall right into his lap.
Now.....all he really had to
do was go find Lucy. She seemed interested enough last night and with a
little persuasion he was certain she’d be a willing participant in his
latest adventure. Granted, she hadn’t liked the extremes he’d thought up
for them, but that was about to change. He was certain of it. She’d see
it his way.
Lucy said her goodbyes and finished up her meeting with the board, though she really couldn’t have told anyone what had taken place as her mind had been on anything, but her work. She couldn’t stop thinking about her conversation with Kevin before, how he’d pushed her aside and gave her a look of contempt unlike anything she’d ever experienced before. She would never get used to that feeling that she ached with. Somehow in all of her life, she’d never felt more alone than she did in this very moment as she rounded the corner of the hallway. It was as if a great big part of her was missing as she thought of where her life had taken her.
“Lucy,” she heard Kevin’s voice call out to her as she wondered if her mind was playing tricks on her as she’d missed him so much, but when she turned her head in the direction of the sound, she saw him standing there beside her.
“Doc,” she half smiled from the relief that he was there calling out to her.
“We need to talk,” Kevin replied looking around the hospital corridor before pulling her aside with him.
“About what?” she asked looking to him.
“It’s about before,” Kevin started after a long moment.
“Doc, somehow I knew you were going to come around and I don’t blame you one bit for being upset with me because what I did was wrong, but I did it because I was trying to protect you from....” she began slightly relieved.
“I’m not here to forgive and forget Lucy,” Kevin cut her off abruptly, “as I don’t think I can ever forget what you did to me, nor can I forgive for that matter,” he said drifting his eyes away unable to look at her as he finished.
“But I thought that you’d said....” she stammered a bit not expecting that response.
“I said we needed to talk,” Kevin answered tightly clearing his throat as he stood uneasy in his stance.
“I thought that was what we were doing,” Lucy reminded him as she noted the way he found it in him to concentrate on everything, anything other than her, “Doc?”
“Lucy,” he started turning his eyes to her briefly, “I don’t want you saying anything about what happened to Eve.”
“What?” she asked looking at him for a moment as it hit her.
“About us making love Lucy,” Kevin spoke tightly, “I don’t want you saying a word to anyone about it. Do you understand?”
“Yeah, I think I do,” Lucy answered painfully as she felt a sharp blow run through her at his words. He’d regretted it. There was no denying that in the way he couldn’t stand to look at her and now...
“You know it never would’ve happened if you hadn’t lied to me,” Kevin snapped at her breaking her thoughts as he looked over to her, “I wouldn’t have made love to you that night had you not manipulated the situation.”
“I didn’t manipulate you into anything Doc,” Lucy replied hurt by his reaction as she felt herself slip back a step, “yes, I may have changed those DNA results, but I didn’t manipulate you into having sex with me...”
“Making love to you...” Kevin began again.
“It was sex Doc,” Lucy cut him off finding her defense mechanisms kicking in as it was too hard for him to call it love after the way he’d reacted, “let’s just call it as it was. You were hurting and you found some comfort in me that night. I wasn’t above giving it to you and we found a way to ease your pain.”
“It shouldn’t have happened like it did Lucy,” Kevin blurted out looking to her for a moment.
“No, it shouldn’t have Kevin, but I wouldn’t take back what happened,” Lucy confessed feeling her heart ache as he looked away from her again while keeping them from forming any connection. Finding it hard to get the words out, she took in a breath as she continued, “Kevin, I won’t deny that I love you. I have loved you for so long..because to me, you are my other half...you’re my soul mate Doc and I won’t stand here and tell you that for one second that I wouldn’t do it all again to spare you the pain because that wouldn‘t be true.”
“I know you’d do it all again Lucy and that’s the problem,” Kevin replied turning to her briefly, “it’s the pain that you caused in trying to keep the truth from me that is causing the aftershocks now.”
“No Doc, don’t you see? Eve’s back and you can keep her with you,” Lucy replied trying to fight the tears threatening, “Your life hasn’t changed...except now you have your wife back and you’re back to where you want to be. My life is the one that’s changed, but I’m learning to live with that. I’m doing the best that I can,” Lucy stopped herself finding it too much to talk about as she turned away.
Kevin watched her for a moment trying to ignore the ache inside of him as he too found this far too difficult to face. The fact that he’d just allowed himself to fall into a situation with Lucy like that spoke volumes about who he was, but for the time being, he couldn’t stand the thought of facing what that could mean. Watching her walk away, he knew she was in pain, but should word of their moment get out, it would cause greater pain. Somehow this time around if he let the truth about who he’d become surface, it would only hurt everyone all the more...namely Eve, the woman he’d pledged his life to.
Unable to let her go, Kevin reached out to Lucy tugging on her arm as she walked past the nurse’s station just as Chris Ramsey was approaching. Chris took in the scene for a moment wondering how this display would go as he took a step back and watched Lucy turn to face Kevin. He noticed the way they both seem tortured by this simple interaction as their eyes met and he knew in that instant that there was no way Lucy Coe was going to back down should he lay out his offer once again. She’d wanted Kevin and she’d gone to great lengths to prove that. Chris was fairly certain she’d do it again given the proper motivation and of course being that he was Chris Ramsey, he’d help her get it.
“Lucy wait,” Kevin started as his hand slipped past her elbow onto her forearm.
“You said all I needed to hear Kevin,” Lucy replied tightly despite the raging emotions through her heart.
“I just wanted to make you we’re clear,” Kevin said a bit hesitantly as he opened his mouth searching for the right words when something all together different came out, “I swear if you breathe a word to anyone about what happened...”
“Doc, what do you take me for?” Lucy questioned gazing into his brown eyes, “You know I would never hurt you.”
“I used to believe that,” Kevin responded coolly, “but I don’t have the first clue as to who you are anymore.”
“Funny,” Lucy said searching his eyes for the old flame that she’d seen not so long ago, “I’m starting to think the same thing about you.”
“Lucy, I never, ever would’ve let myself fall into that position had you not deceived me,” Kevin shot back at her raising his voice a bit though he really had no reason to be screaming at her. Scratch that, he had plenty of reason to scream at her and yet none of those seemed appropriate for why he was doing this...why he was getting this out on her like this?
“Doc, who are you trying to convince?” she asked sensing something in his voice as he avoided her eyes once again and withdrew his hand from her. “You or me?”
“Lucy, you know what you did,” Kevin snapped at her as voices rose from around the corner and Kevin along with Chris turned to see Eve rushing down the hallway with Livvie practically nipping at her heels.
“You stay away from my husband!” Eve screamed out in a shrill voice as she walked over to Kevin. She turned to Lucy and glared at her, “I know what you’re all about and he’s mine Lucy, so just get used to it.”
“Eve,” Kevin started watching his wife in a full blown fury, “if you’d just...”
“No, I know all about what she tried to do,” Eve glanced over at Livvie briefly before directing her eyes to Lucy, “I know how you tried to move in on Kevin while I was gone, while you thought I was dead and I will not let you do that.”
Confused Lucy turned her eyes towards Livvie as Livvie looked away feeling the guilt tearing at her. Lucy looked back to Kevin, who’d remained silent as Eve continued her attack.
“You aren’t going to take my husband away from me. Do you understand me?”
“Eve I understand....” Lucy started as Chris stepped forward a bit watching Eve ready to go on the attack.
“No, Lucy, I think you don’t have the first damn clue about what I’m trying to get through your head here, but let me lay it out for you,” Eve moved in closer to her, “if you ever come near him again, you’ll find you’re going to be very sorry. Kevin is my husband, not yours,” Eve paused as Lucy said nothing and still on her rant as Lucy looked to the floor, Eve continued to push further, “Get it through your head Lucy. Kevin loves me, not you and whatever chance you think you had while I was gone, well, know that it’s not going to happen. Kevin didn’t stray from me when he’d thought I’d died and he sure as hell isn’t going to do it now.”
Finally deciding that he’d heard enough, Chris stepped forward wondering what the hell had compelled him to get involved, but standing there for so long and seeing Lucy get a verbal assault from Eve was far more than enough for his liking. Kevin had proven to be useless as usual as he’d said nothing during Eve’s attack on Lucy. Probably the result of his guilty feelings, Chris thought to himself knowing that Eve didn’t have the first clue about her holier than thou husband. Finding himself rather annoyed with Eve defending her so called ‘love’ for Kevin yet again, he fought off the initial gagging reflex as he looked to his once best friend.
“That’s enough,” Chris cut through Eve’s abrasive words as he stepped between the two women.
“Ramsey, this doesn’t concern you,” Eve snapped at him.
“On the contrary Lambert, right now it does,” Chris replied sternly, “we’re here in the middle of the hospital where people are here to get help, not to become part of ringside seating to your verbal assault on Lucy here.”
“Chris, this isn’t really any of your concern,” Kevin started cutting Chris a warning glare.
“Maybe not Collins, but you know now that I’m here, let me be the first to tell you that I’m not the only one sick of your smug attitude here,” Chris snapped at him, “you know you carry yourself like your some kind of saint, and yet here you are letting Eve tear apart Lucy when you know better than anyone that there isn’t any justification to it.”
“Chris, that’s enough...” Lucy said breaking past her silence as she looked to him beginning to attack Kevin.
“Not nearly enough,” Chris shrugged her words off as he stepped forward towards Kevin, “I mean you let Eve rant and rave about the so called sins of Lucy, but maybe its time we turned the scope around on you,” he looked between Kevin and Eve, “both of you even. You know, you two walk around this place like you’re so much better than the world, like the rest of us are beneath you here, but in reality, you two thrive off misery just as much as you claim we do,” he turned his eyes towards Eve.
“Back off Chris,” Eve warned sharply cutting him a glare.
“You my darling, are the biggest sell out of them all,” Chris replied noticing that Ian had walked into the room, “you sit here day in and day out carrying yourself around like you were above us all here..like you were never a part of everything.”
“I think you’re talking about yourself there Chris,” Eve cut back with a scowl.
“No Eve, I don’t think I am. You and I both know the great lengths we went to back in the good ole days before you changed yourself to be a saint for Kevin here,” Chris rolled his eyes slightly, “you weren’t sweet and nice and you most certainly didn’t give a damn about being perfect and doting to him and his friends. You were strong willed, independent and you knew how to have a good time and now look at you,” he shook his head, “the only reason you hate Lucy so much is because you refuse to let this war between the two of you die. Your still getting pleasure from the misery you two cause one another, only this time you mask that under the game of who gets to have Kevin now,” Chris paused turning his eyes to Kevin, “and you, well you’re the biggest hypocrite of them all.”
“Chris...” Lucy started again watching him cut Kevin a glare.
“You sit here and have the audacity to let Eve chew Lucy out for what happened during her departure, but never once do you clue Eve into just how responsible you were for your actions during that time,” Chris paused throwing him a look, “but then again it takes a real man to own up to what he’s done. Granted, I may be a great many things here, but I’ve always, always accepted the credit for what I’ve done, good or bad, but you, well anything that could tarnish who you are, well, we’ll just sweep it under the carpet and throw the finger out at others there. It’s easier to displace what you’re feeling on others, isn’t it Collins?”
“Chris...” Eve started feeling her anger build, “you’re out of line.”
“No Eve, I’m just telling it like it is. You used to appreciate that once,” Chris nodded towards Kevin, “and you know maybe before you jump all over Lucy here, you should take the time to ask yourself who your husband really is. You might be surprised with the results there,” with that Chris turned to Lucy grabbing a hold of her arm despite the protest forming on her lips, “and you, well you’re done with this for today.”
“But....” she started as he whisked her into the elevator leaving a confused and upset Kevin and Eve behind. Lucy found her own anger build inside of her as she was still trying to make sense of what just happened. She turned her eyes towards Chris and watched him rubbing his shoulders slightly, “What did you think you were doing just now?”
“Saving you from yet another attack from Eve,” Chris confessed closing his eyes as he pressed back into the elevator.
“But why?”
“Because I was tired of hearing it,” Chris explained, “I’m tired of Kevin. I’m tired of this new improved Eve and I’m tired of having to try to own up to what I’ve done while people like Kevin can just breeze by without thinking about those they’ve hurt in the process.”
“Doc, didn’t mean to hurt me Chris,” Lucy started quickly.
“Always jumping to defend him Lucy,” Chris opened his eyes to look at her, “what makes him so damned special?”
“Doc, is my friend and he’s got a good heart....” Lucy began.
“So good in fact that he’d just sit there and let you take it from Eve instead of owning up to his actions,” Chris half questioned watching her, “you’ll never quit defending him, will you? Let me ask you this though, where was he when you needed him to defend you? What was he doing to stop Eve just now?”
“I love him Chris, which is obviously something you wouldn’t understand,” Lucy shot back bitterly as she found the tears slipping past her cheeks.
“No Lucy,” Chris softened his tone, “I do understand. I know what it’s like to watch a woman lose herself in an attempt to love Kevin,” he explained seeing her tears fall, “I’ve seen someone change everything about themselves to make him happy and all it’s done is brought them misery.”
“I’m not Eve,” Lucy shot back at him, “Chris, Kevin changed my life around and he gave me hope again.”
“Only to shoot it down again,” Chris sighed feeling a bit sorry for her, something he hadn’t planned on, “you know you deserve better.”
“I never deserved Doc to begin with and this just proves it,” Lucy confessed tearfully, “I just ruin everything that I touch.”
“No, I don’t think so Lucy,” Chris shook his head, “Kevin Collins just didn't’ know what a prize he had in you.”
“The real prize was the day he’d let me go,” Lucy continued overcome by her tears as she thought of the way Kevin had looked at her, “that’s when his life became perfect.”
“I sincerely doubt that,” Chris replied unable to be the hard ass he’d intended upon being as he reached out to her to comfort her for some reason unknown to him. He wrapped his arms around her gently, “in all honesty, I think he’s just trying to fool himself.”
“Eve makes him happy and she’s given him so many things that I couldn’t.”
“They’re both in denial,” Chris tried to soothe her, “the way I see it, they are both two miserable people trying to hide under the illusion of the perfect marriage, but we both know it’s falling apart.”
“He loves her so much,” Lucy continued.
“He loves you too and maybe it’s time that we make him see that,” Chris decided thinking about his plans, “I mean maybe along the way I can help win Eve over to my side again.”
“Why do you even want her?” Lucy asked looking up at him.
“You don’t know Eve like I do Lucy,” Chris started thinking about Eve for a moment, “she’s not the woman she is with Kevin.”
“And you don’t know Doc,” Lucy replied pulling away from him as if she’d just realized that his arms were around her.
“You’re right, I don’t,” Chris agreed thinking it over, “but together we both know how they work and what they’re about.”
“I don’t trust you Chris,” Lucy began defensively, “and if you haven’t noticed Kevin is not interested in coming back to me.”
“That’s not the vibe I got there with the look he gave you,” Chris argued, “it was still there.”
“No, it wasn’t,” She shook her head.
“If that were true, he wouldn’t have made love to you,” Chris pointed out as Lucy looked to him.
“Don’t you dare say that ever again,” Lucy snapped at him.
“Why? Because Kevin didn’t want anyone to know that he does still have feelings for you?”
“I never should’ve told you that,” she sighed.
“No, probably not, but you did and now maybe it’s time Eve found out the truth about that.”
“Don’t you dare,” Lucy warned menacingly as she stepped forward, “If you even think about spilling a word to her about what happened, I’ll bury you.”
“Not if I don’t bury you first,” Chris countered defensively, “Lucy, we both know that I’m in the position to hold all the cards here.”
“On the contrary Chris,” Lucy snapped back at him, “We both know that there’s one way that I could turn this around on you and don’t think I won’t if you cross me.”
“Why don’t you want her to know the truth?” Chris challenged.
“Because that’s not how I want Doc coming back to me,” Lucy replied simply, “I want him to do it because he wants to, not by default.”
“I’m surprised to hear you say that considering how you reacted upstairs.”
“I was taken off guard.”
“But you believe there’s hope?” he questioned curiously.
“I don’t know,” Lucy frowned, “but somehow I don’t think you’re going to let me give up on that, are you?”
“You’re smarter than I gave you credit for,” Chris smirked wickedly as she rolled her eyes.
“So I have the feeling we’re going to work on your plan whether I like it or not,” Lucy replied crossing her arms in front of her chest.
“Admit it,” Chris decided as he stepped towards her. He glanced down at her eyes for a moment before cracking a grin, “you like it.”
“You’d like to believe I did,” Lucy replied tightly.
“You want Kevin. I want Eve and you know that together we’ll find a way to get them,” Chris replied brushing a strand of hair from her face, “admit it Lucy. We make a decent team.”
“More like a match made in hell,” she replied letting her arms slip down to her sides as she watched the mischief behind his eyes.
“Whatever works,” Chris replied hearing the sounds of the elevator doors beginning to open as he reached out to her wrapping his large hand around her neck before drawing her to him for a brief kiss.
A bit surprised Lucy found herself pulling back before giving in to the kiss knowing full well what it was for as he drew back from her. He brushed his thumb over her lips before glancing towards the open elevator doors briefly before slinking his arm around her to squeeze her to him for a brief moment.
“Chris....” Lucy started thinking about what he was doing as he gave her a peck on the cheek.
With a slight smile Chris readjusted
his tie before giving her a wink, “Don’t forget my house tonight at seven.
I have such plans for you, so don‘t be late,” he replied stepping out of
the elevator as Lucy turned her eyes to find herself face to face with
a very shocked Mac Scorpio as she realized that Chris had just taken the
