Death Valley Boxsters
April 28, 2000
While enjoying The World's Lowest Boxsterfest in Death Valley, on our way to TBHL III in Las Vegas, we accidentally met this German camera team at the Furnace Creek Inn. They were filming a documentary on Death Valley. The next morning (April 28, 2000) the camera team filmed the Boxsters at the Artist's Drive and also our group while posing with their Boxsters in front of Artist's Palette.
The documentary was on the air June 1, 2000 on German TV (ARD) and YES! we have been included! I recorded the documentary and made a few video clips in order to give my Boxster friends in The States and other places in the world and especially those present at the shooting a good impression of the documentary and how we are part of it. Yes, some who were present at the scene can even recognize themselves driving Artist's Drive. A special thanks to Walt Bilofsky (who is the one making the group photo) who did a wonderful job organizing the Death Valley caravan.
I have three videos available. With the first one I intend to pass on the atmosphere of the documentary and how we as Boxster group are part of it. That's why it is small in frame size but relatively long in duration. Nevertheless it is only 4 minutes out of 30 minutes. I skipped i.a. motor cyclists, cyclists and nudists. All Boxster images have been included though. It has the original sound, and German spoken word. Below the video download link is a translation of the spoken word. Take in consideration that it has been translated by a Dutchman :-)
First video clip (9.9 Mb / 100 x 75 / 3' 47" / Indeo 3.2)
1.2 million visitors each year are coming to Death Valley and apparently many of them choose interesting ways for transportation.
It's a wildness with .........., dunes, bare rocks. Because of the geologic low situation there is an intense heat starting from May, however there are oases. Doug Trilof is one of the park rangers in Death Valley and devotes his life studying pupfish. This is Salt Creek and Doug Trilof is fascinated by the fact that these fish can survive under these extreme conditions. Little fish being of high importance to science. After Alaska, Death Valley is the largest National Park of the US.
Death Valley magically attracts friends who like driving together. We accidentally met a group of people from California driving a German car brand at the so called Artist Drive. The rocks they say are colourful like a painter's pallet.
A group picture in front of green yellow and red rocks. Many good roads leading to all interesting sites in Death Valley is one of the benefits for the tourists. Many large wildernesses in the western part of US are mostly inaccessible. Death Valley is so well accessible because it is a National Park for which the government in Washington holds responsibility.
Shipping a car from Europe costs 4.5 K German Marks. Such a well preserved luxurious car costs about 400K German Marks. The members of the British Bentley Clubs enjoy the desert by the motto : "one allows oneself otherwise nothing".
By the way, the desert also didn't leave the ARD team cold. It must be admitted that during the shooting we also had a lot of fun in Death Valley.
And action! ..... Aahh!! Lasagne.......
The second video clip presents merely the Boxster part in better resolution. It has the original sound.
Second video clip (8.7 Mb / 180 x 132 / 1'26" / Indeo 3.2)
The third video clip has much better resolution however at the expense of duration and original sound. Here we can actually recognize several of us driving and posing. Do not miss this one.
Third video clip (9.8 Mb / 400 x 300 / 15" / Indeo 5.11)
enjoy!
