Rocks and rattlesnakes! Paul made it into Delaware Water Gap, PA, on July 22nd and is now in New Jersey. He found Pennsylvania to be full of rocks and rattlesnakes, but managed to average over 18 miles a day with ankles and feet intact and only insect bites. The number of through-hikers on the trail has dwindled, but a fair number of the same people he started out with 4 months and 1300 miles ago are still out there plugging along. He's enjoyed meeting up with some of them again and reading messages from others in the shelter registers. He also read a register entry from another "Fiddler" and promptly labeled him/her an imposter though he did admit that playing harmony in the evening might be fun. ;) We've updated his schedule and are now working on a "new and different menu" approach to his food drops with the variety of dehydrated/packaged foods he has available. Macaroni and cheese continues to be his dinner of choice at least a couple nights a week though, probably because of the 1200+ calories!
