Trouble Shooting HID lighting
LAMP WILL NOT LIGHT
1) Make sure lamp is making contact with the socket.
2) Check wiring
3) Check for low line voltage / Check fuse and/or breaker
4) Lamp may be restriking*. Let lamp cool if the bulb was lit.
5) Incorrect ballast/lamp
6) Improper operating position
7) Failed ignitor / igniting voltage too low
8) Failed Capacitor / check for bulging or leaking.
9) Improper operating position
SHORT LAMP LIFE
1) Check outer bulb and inner bulb for defects.
2) Incorrect ballast / lamp
3) High / Low line voltage
4) Failing capacitor / check for bulging or leaking.
5) Improper operating position
FUSE BLOW / BREAKER TRIP
1) Check circuit and wiring
2) Overloaded circuit. Try a different circuit.
LAMP CYCLES / FLICKERS
1) Incorrect ballast/lamp
2) Input voltage variations. Try an unloaded circuit.
3) New Lamp. If lamp does not stabilize after 3 starts, check ballast.
This happens if the lamp is European and used on standard US probe start ballasts.
Check markings on bulb to see if it is European.
4) Standard HPS lamps cycle at end of life. Replace lamp
5) Check capacitor / check for bulging or leaking.
6) Improper operating position
LAMP STARTS SLOWLY
1) Cold start*
2) Low voltage
3) Failing capacitor / check for bulging or leaking.
4) Failing ignitor
5) Incorrect ignitor / Incorrect ignition voltage
6) Improper operating position
LAMP COLOR DIFFERENCE
1) New lamp. Let burn in for 100 hours.
2) Incorrect color temperature (K). Check lamp markings.
3) Aged lamp. Replace lamp
4) High / Low line voltage
5) If burning position was changed let burn in.
6) Incorrect burning position
LOW LIGHT OUTPUT
1) Cold start*. Let lamp warm up.
2) Low operating voltage. Check line voltage.
3) Check wiring
4) Incorrect ballast / lamp
5) Failing capacitor / check for bulging or leaking.
6) Lamp over heating. Check reflector is NOT
refocusing energy at the inner bulb (arc tube).
7) Improper operating position
ARC TUBE TURNS BLACK / ARC TUBE SWELLING OR SCORCHING
1) Incorrect lamp wattage. Ballast over riding the lamp.
2) Failing capacitor / check for bulging or leaking.
3) Lamp over heating. Check reflector is NOT
refocusing energy at the inner bulb (arc tube).
4) Lamp glowing dim. Certain lamps only partial discharge / Replace lamp
5) Lamp at end of life. Replace lamp
