Scoops Ice Cream Bar is located along the traffic corridor connecting Neptune's Reef Pool area with Calypso Reef Pool area. Once again, this is a friendly appearing stand, with the GIANT ice cream cone sure to attract the kids. HOWEVER, none of this sweetness is without a price, and in this case, it is a steep price: Here, Ice Cream is SOLD!

Anyone who has visited my Grand Princess site knows of my vehement dislike of charges for food on board ship. I felt the Ice Cream Bar on Grand Princess set a dangerous precedent, which, left unchecked, stood to affect the entire nature of cruising, as we know it. Regrettably, my prediction has come to be true! Directly due to quiet acquiescence of seemingly trivial charges like those for ice cream, it is now quite common to find Lines charging steep prices for the "privilege" of dining at an alternate restaurant on board. While, at the time of this writing, Princess' highest charge for on board food is $15.00, charges on other lines run as high as $25, with no end yet in sight for their price escalation! All the while, food quality and service included in the cruise fare continues its descent. One has only to ask how long it will be before we see this dangerous trend begin to affect itself upon other aspects of the cruise experience? Already, I'm hearing reports of some company's having test marketed charges for cabin service (naturally, claimed to be for the gratuity only-the identical claim originally made by Princess regarding charges for Sabitini's on Grand Princess.) How long will it be before cruise cards are scanned at ticket booths outside of the ship's theaters for the "premium" entertainment provided therein?

Ironically, Princess, recently, has moved to quash some of the controversy regarding their charges for ice cream. Where, originally, Princess removed free ice cream service from all food venues other than the main dining rooms, now, once again, it is available in the Horizon court! I can live with charges for ice cream, and other food, as long as the food previously provided as part of the cruise fare is not compromised in quality or availability. With the return of free ice cream to the buffet, it no longer is!

Scoops, in addition to serving ice cream is also a bar, serving alcoholic drinks mixed with ice cream.
