Tequila's Restaurant on Star Princess

A PARNAMI Cruise Page
The first of several alternate dining venues on Star Princess and one of two for which fees are levied for doing so, the 92 seat Tequila's Restaurant provides passengers with a Southwest/Mexican experience.  Decidedly upscale, Tequila's ambiance remains casual, heightened as it is by the restaurant's placement with a main passenger thoroughfare cutting directly through its center.  While I was on Grand Princess, I questioned the wisdom of such design, but, upon reflection on Star Princess, the constant flow of passengers lends an open-air feel to the restaurant similar to dining alfresco at a sidewalk café.   Nightly, playing from about 8:00 till after midnight, a country style entertainer keeps things lively, often capturing the fancy of passers by, who, if they happen to pull up a stool at the bar and stay a while or join in a dance, are welcome to do so.

Princess DOES charge for meals taken in Tequila's.  At the time of my sailing, that fee was $8.00, up considerably from when I was on Grand Princess ($3.50) in 1998.  For that price passengers also receive a 16oz Margarita, reducing, somewhat, the negative feelings about paying for food while on a cruise.  Unlike as things were in 1998, no pretext is made about the charge going towards and covering the gratuity.   THIS is a revenue generator, pure and simple, and, while food charges continue to increase, not just on Princess but also on all lines, the corresponding quality of food included in the cruise fare continues to slide!  Remember my warning about Ice Cream on Grand Princess?  This is the result of passenger acceptance of those, seemingly petty charges!

Customers desiring a more intimate experience, without the distractions caused by the constant flow of people through the restaurant, may ask to be seated in the rear, away from hustle and bustle. Large picture windows open the kitchen to passenger view for those who care to watch.
