![]() The Library, Writing Room, Card Room & Art Gallery on Star Princess
A PARNAMI Cruise Page
Four minor rooms lie on Plaza Deck at the lowest level of the Atrium.
The Library, despite its small size, carries a good selection of books both for entertainment and for researching trivia questions. Four computer terminals supplement the research material, providing satellite access to America on Line and the Internet. (These are in addition to the room filled with terminals one deck up at the Internet Cafe.)
On my tour of Grand Princess, I remarked about the sparse furnishings of the Library. With Star, Princess has relocated the leather "personal music listening chairs" from the Grand Plaza into the Library, now serving the added purpose of providing a comfortable place to cozy up with a good book. The library, thus, comes away as being better furnished and the Atrium less congested; a win/win situation!
Windows admit natural light but are too small so serve passengers as a spot for restful contemplation of the sea, a problem, unfortunately, shared with most public areas on board.
Typically, the Library is open 5 hours a day during sea days and 2-3 hours while in port. Computer access is provided continuously.
![]() Immediately adjacent to the Library is the Writing Room. Ten Marble desktops furnish this small open area off the Atrium. A few of the desks do overlook the sea providing the perfect distraction from the chore at hand. Princess stationary is available for the taking.
![]() The Card Room provides an assortment of games for passengers interested in partaking. Under normal circumstances, the room, accommodating 48 players, is quite adequate in size for its intended purpose. When the Princess Bridge players take control, however, forget it! Long time cruisers with Princess are well aware of the popularity of Bridge among their fellow passengers and know to expect entire sections of the ship to be taken over for the daily games. This is serious business! The Card Room on Star Princess cannot contain them!
![]() Moving forward a bit from Atrium we encounter the Photo Gallery. With the growing popularity of art auctions on board, the designers of Grand Princess originally envisioned having a formal Gallery to showcase the art coming up for sale, relieving the ship of the clutter normally associated with such auctions. The Star Princess continues with that ideal, although, it certainly does not solve the clutter problem. The days prior to every art auction see dozens of art pieces scattered along passenger thoroughfares throughout the ship.
Failed original intentions to the contrary, the Photo Gallery does provide an interesting place for passengers to spend some time. For those passengers that do happen to spot an item of interest, yellow markers may be placed to request its presentation at an upcoming auction.
