![]() Standard Category II - M Inside Stateroom on Star Princess, # D717
A PARNAMI Cruise Page
Standard inside cabins on Star Princess measure a comfortable, if not overly spacious, 160 sq feet in area. Missing, are the sitting areas, which, now, pretty much have become standard features for all cabins of newly built vessels. Apparently, Princess intends their passengers to be out enjoying the many amenities Star Princess has to offer and not cooped up within the confines of their cabin. I am not sure I can fault them for good intentions. With so much happening elsewhere, it would seem a waste to spend too much time in the cabin.
Although small, these cabins are nicely furnished and lack the "indestructible" appearance of standard cabins on ships of some other lines. This appears to be the tradeoff the cruise lines are offering us: large cheaply furnished cabins meant to withstand years of abuse, or smaller, well-furnished cabins intended for civilized people. Give me the civilized people any day! When it comes to passenger accommodations, perhaps uniquely, size is NOT everything!
All cabins provide the commonplace TV's, safes, desk/vanity area and private bath with a spacious shower, toilet and sink area. The telephone on the vanity included a display for caller ID and a clock. The hairdryer occupies, not the bathroom, but, rather, the vanity area, freeing up the bathroom for other uses. Closet and drawer space is spacious for TWO people. Luggage may be stored beneath the bed or in the closet area.
Princess no longer provides bathrobes and fruit baskets, automatically, in every cabin. They are, however, available to all passengers upon request to the stateroom steward at no additional charge.
Some of these staterooms are set up to accommodate third and fourth persons in fold down upper berths. For anyone planning to take advantage of this option, expect space to be quite tight!
Once again, to facilitate movement around the ship, carpet color in cabin corridors differs on both sides of the ship: Right - blue; Left - red. Remember which side of the ship you are on and, when getting off the elevators, walk toward the corridor with the correct color for your cabin. On a ship this large, you really do not want to find you have made a wrong turn AFTER having walked its entire length.
There are 366 inside cabins on Star Princess.
![]() In efforts to obtain the largest possible sizing for cabins, Star Princess Designers reduced the width of the hallways to the bare minimum. Even when empty of obstructions these hallways are narrow. When filled with obstructions such as laundry carts, as they are for much of the day, they become virtually impassable. Wheelchair bound passengers WILL find their passage totally blocked!
Self-service laundries for passenger use are scattered throughout five accommodation decks. Each laundry provides washers, dryers, sinks folding table, ironing boards and irons for passenger use. Prices for washers are $1.00; for dryers: $.50. Vending machines dispense detergent, bleach, and fabric softener.
