Inquisitor Hlokk: Background - Alan Brilly

 Origins

At the end of the second century of the 41st millennium, the peraxxia system lay in ruins thanks to a bloody civil war at the hands of Cardinal Silas Fontain, known through the sub sector as the great over fiend. Fontain had believed that the key to humanities salvation lay in the invoking of a sacred rite that would install a benevolent daemon as the new god of humanity. The nature of the warp itself means that, although the majority of the daemons and psychic entities therein are malevolent, there are some that are friendly to humanities cause.

These tend to be reclusive creatures that avoid contact or daemons that ultimately serve their own purpose. It was believed that Fontain had made contact with one of these creatures and was being advised by the daemon to look for a device located in the peraxxia system that would allow the daemon to ascend to god hood by feeding on a massive amount of psychic energy. It was with this reason that Fontain declared a holy crusade on the system, obliterating it with nuclear and biological weapons as his agents searched for the item. Several members of the inquisition questioned Fontain’s reasoning and they declared him ex-communicate tratoris.

Following this, he was assassinated by unanimous decision of the high lords of terra, who commissioned an evisor assassin to eliminate the cardinal. This was achieved, and the daemon that he had been in contact with was banished back into the warp. Over time the system's population began to emerge from under ground to begin their lives again.

The environment that greeted them was one of total desolation, whole continents having been blown apart by missiles, rivers swimming with radioactive blood and puss, worlds ravaged by disease and plagues which liquefied the inner organs, making people bleed through every bodily orifice until they eventually collapsed in on themselves. There were bands of mutants raised from the survivors of the original holocaust, mutated beyond all reasoning by the nuclear fallout. It was into this world that Hlokk was born 600 years after the destruction of the system.

Hlokk was born high on a mountain in the south of Peraxxia 7, his mother suddenly falling into premature labour as a result of advanced pneumonia and a flesh-eating virus. His mother was a woman of great standing within her village, second in power only to the great shaman of the village. Hlokk's mother died in childbirth, leaving his screaming form clinging to her still warm corpse high in the snow-covered mountains. It was a miracle that the child survived like that for 3 days, feeding from his mother's depleted milk supplies until he was found by a party from the village who proclaimed his survival a miracle.

And so it was that Hlokk grew up in the ways of the tribe, raised to use a primitive rifle and hunting knife, by the age of 6 he was already one of the best hunters in the tribe. The unknown identity of his father haunted him at that time constantly, as did the details of his mother. He fell into company with a stranger from another land that had visited the village on a trading tour.

He said he could identify the boy's father and said he knew his mother well. The stranger told Hlokk of his mother in great detail, leaving out all details of his father. When Hlokk enquired about this, the stranger said that Hlokk was not ready to learn the truth, but should prepare himself for his day of reckoning. From then on Hlokk focused on his physical abilities, becoming more and more famous in his village.

Upon Hlokk's 8th birthday, the stranger returned and informed the young Hlokk that he was the child of the shaman, who had serially raped his mother for 6 months until she had fell pregnant, he then declared the child a bastard and condemned the child and the mother to banishment from the village, it was only through the actions of the kind villagers that he had been found and installed into power. Hlokk was furious and accompanied the stranger to the shaman’s tent. The shaman was asleep; Hlokk burst in and hit the shaman round the head with the butt of his rifle. He fell to the ground in a heap. Hlokk switched the rifle to fully automatic and shot an entire magazine into the shaman's face. Fleeing with the stranger from the village, they sought refuge in the mountains.

It was at that time that the inquisitorial black ships appeared in the sky above the planet and the emissaries appeared to take the children away. Hlokk was tracked and found and taken aboard. The stranger accompanied him onto the black ship and all through his training the stranger was there, always with a re-assuring word or advice. It was to this end that hlokk began to think of the stranger as a father figure. When the initial training had finished for the child, he was assigned to inquisitor Carter for his induction. For 10 years he studied under Carter, becoming more and more swayed by Carter's horusian beliefs.

Hlokk saw action under Carter on the second battle for Armageddon, the purging of Tanrir and the Damocles crusade. Carter after 10 years training, decided it was time for Carter to become a fully-fledged inquisitor and revealed to him the knowledge that Carter has suspected for years. That the emperor was the mental defence between Chaos and this universe and was failing. The time had come for a new god of humanity to be instated and to this end, he has studied the work and
prophesies of Fontain, some 700 years earlier, who was searching for a device to allow a daemon of the warp to accent to god hood.

This daemon had been identified already as the force known as Tak, a powerful psychic entity whose origins stretched back to the beginning of time, predating the
race known as the C'tan. The prophesy of Fontain, who himself had been a latent psyker, read:

"And in the years of the ancients

 The abbalah shall come forth
When humanity lies on the brink
 The emperor shall die
And the Abballah shall consume him.
When the kraken's coils have encircled us
And the dragon and the lord of darkness have begun their astral game
And the bloody handed one leads the dance of swords against
The despoiler who shall sweep all before him
The Abballah shall emerge and finish the work the emperor began
At his right shall be the messiah of shadow
At his left shall be gorg, the messenger who will proclaim his coming
And the kraken will be broken
The dragon and the lord of darkness shall be smote by the abballah's wrath
The despoiler shall be banished into the aether
And the bloody handed one shall be chained to the abballah's throne
Who will accend to the birth place of humanity
And give unto the loyal the galaxy
The unloyal shall be torn assunder by his wrath,
And to his followers, the universe.

Carter heard this with a massive interest. He took the kraken to mean the tyranids, the Dragon and lord of darkness to be the god's of ancient Necrontyr legend. This would account for the spiral in necrontyr activity recently. Also, the bloody handed one may be a reference to Khain, the god of the eldar. Whereas the despoiler was abaddon, the warmaster of chaos. Carter explained that the emperor was dying and that evidence of this was all around, the increase in mutations and the more frequent manifestations of daemons were evidence of this. Hlokk made it his personal quest as an inquisitor to fulfil the instatement of the daemon covertly.

5 years later hlokk returned to the peraxxia system and declared exterminatus on the planet. The planet was smashed assunder and the world left bare open for him to take exactly what he wanted. The device, known only as the Tau'ri'tu, was a creation of the c'tan, for the re-generation of the star gods. Although damaged, Hlokk used this device to bind the essence of Tak into a human host, rendering him bound within a host body. It was a month later that the stranger of Hlokk's
childhood re appeared and identified himself as Randall Flagg, the prophesised dark messiah. Tak, now fully sentient within his host body, confirmed this fact. It was with these two that hlokk set out into his 100-year covert mission to instate the Daemon known as Tak to godhood. He has made several allies along the way. These are:

Randall Flagg: the prophesised dark messiah who will accend to power when Tak becomes a god. He is a powerful telepath.

Tak: originally a scientifically created being created 100,000,000 years ago in another galaxy to operate as a central reservoir of psychic energy, has evolved a sentience and has manifested himself as the daemon named belphragor. wishes to accend to god hood and has convinced Hlokk that his intentions are benevolent, however, he intends to feed off the psychic energy of the emperor when he dies and thus become the 6th chaos god (malal features heavily in my stories)

Blayde and his twinner azal: The last survivor of a military expedition led by a deranged inquisitor who sought to over throw the imperium. ship was attacked by the tarellian and he threw himself into a stasis pod and entered the warp.

Azal finds his soul and orders cult to bind his soul to blaydes, process interrupted leaving Azal partly joined to Blayde, allowing himself to manifest for short periods of time physically through blayde, without blaydes body degrading and so forth. also allows blayde to communicate with the daemon as a normal person might with another. Also allows blayde to use minor psychic powers. Azal and blayde follow Hlokk as Azal realised his grip on the physical world is very weak, and if blayde dies, as their souls are joined, he will die too.

Officio sabeturum agent Fane Hicks: After his wife left him and his daughter was killed in a high school hostage taking, whom hicks stopped from becoming a massacre, he turned his back on the emperor for the death of his daughter Isabelle.

hearing of the cause of Inquisitor Hlokk, he joins him, bringing with him his immense demolitions knowledge. He has turned his back on the emperor as he feels the emperor has turned his back on him and wants revenge against the failed god of humanity (as you do).

Bio-weapon Chrono Gryx aka Weapon X: Created in an attempt to re create the genetic methods used to create space marines, albeit more cheaply and quickly, Gryx is the result of a lab experiment that went horribly wrong. he was selected for the job, being taken away from his wife and being forced upon the operating slab and having the treatment performed on him. he degenerated into a frothing bezerker and now seeks to destroy the imperium that destroyed him. finding refuge with inquisitor hlokk, he now wishes to destroy all those who support the corrupt imperium.

 Gorg- Messenger of the Abballah:
Gorg is the herald of Tak, who has taken the form of a raven to proclaim the message of Tak's coming.

Voil'a ukos- Tau outcast: after daring to question the greater good and the Tau's rights to colonise planets in the name of an unknown cause, resulting in massive resistance a horrendous loss of life on both sides, he was excluded from his fire warriors unit and, after drifting into the life of a mercenary, was hired by Hlokk, having not had a better offer.
