Damage in Inquisitor too low? - Tom Parker

Damage in Inquisitor too low?
I have noticed some complaints people have had with some of the features of the game, most notably the damage settings being too low and unrealistic (mainly with regards to shooting).

This "problem" can be fixed very simply. At the start of a game or campaign select a "Power Genre" this could control various things such as the availability of certain items, experience cost to raise abilities etc.

However it could also affect the amount of damage inflicted on a character without changing any weapon profiles:

After a hit, roll for damage normally according to the profile, subtract the amount due to armour, cover etc BUT multiply the damage actually inflicted by a set number depending on the Power Genre:

Legendary: x1 (no change) This represents normal games of Inquisitor and Epic stories such as Lord of the Rings and similar high fantasy stories and perhaps super-melodramatic action movies. AD&D, Warhammer Quest style games.

Heroic:  x2 (Doubled) This represents most action movies and similar T.V shows, and some of the slightly darker fantasy series than Tolkien and his ilk, most gritty role-playing games Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay for example. This is a good one to play if you feel Inquisitor is a bit too soft.

Realistic: x3 (Tripled) This is like real life; fights are short, nasty and brutal. Heroism in this type of game normally results in an bullet in the lung. Fancy swordplay would mostly result in a severed arm or trust through the abdomen. Only horror stories and movies commonly chose this sort of setting and only the Cyberpunk RPG system uses anything near it. Perhaps a little too nasty to play as Instant death comes to a normal person after only 15 points of damage, some people may enjoy the intense feel about it and stealth becomes a lot more important.

This may make Space Marines slightly easier to kill and makes Close-combat even more dangerous. However it will be more difficult to actually get within sword range now and realistic campaigns may degrade into a sniping match which may not suit everyone. 'course it can be quite fun running around.

The multipliers could also apply to the cost of advancement.

Legendary and Exotic items would be more restricted in a Heroic setting although since most characters are or are supplied by Inquisitors this will not really be a problem. Non-Inquisitor led groups may have more problems.

In a realistic campaign Exotic items will be difficult to obtain for non-Inquisitor characters and Legendary items will really be Inquisitor only. Non-Inquisitor led groups may even have problems obtaining Rare items and Hive-Ganger, mutant rebel and similar types of characters may only have access to Common items.
