Nine stepped through the golden gateway, passing slowly under the shadow of the great edifice, and began to climb the spiral stair. Their hulking forms glinted in the baleful firelight from the great braziers as they ascended the tower. Eight were golden, their bulky armour heavily modified and covered in spines and trophies of all sorts. They carried a variety of fearsome weaponry, and bristled with spikes and blades, and the horns and hair of great beasts had been fixed to their armour. Some wore golden helms; others' heads were bare save for a respirator. What skin showed through their armour was pale and wasted, and their eyes glowed green. ninth led from the front, his size dwarfing even the other Terminators. His armour was black and red, and the only trophy he wore was a skull hanging on a chain from his belt. In one hand, he carried a curved sword with a serrated edge, more than eight feet in length and pulsing with red light. His right was an enormous talon stained with dried blood, a long blade jutting from the wrist. The blade swam with hideous faces, and gave off a faint blue glow. His face was covered with a grey hood, save for his right eye, which glowed brightly. Six silver horns framed his head, and on his forehead, an orange gemstone gave off a light that matched his eye. terribly majestic as the Warlord's physical appearance was, it did nothing to compare to his psychic presence. They felt it as he approached the top of the golden tower; that incredible feeling of insignificance washing over them as their master arrived. When he appeared on the flat top of the tower, a great cheer went up, and his retinue stood back to allow him to be seen. The green sun cast an eerie light as it began to rise, glinting off the golden armoured warriors and the silver spikes on their master's armour. And around the tower, a sea of people stretched as far as the eye could see. There were millions there, untold millions. The better part of the planet's population had gathered to hear the address they had awaited for years. The crowd carpeted the entire landscape, and all wore blue robes, giving the impression of a vast ocean that broiled and rippled as the cheer went up. Warlord of Daemonica IX, Commander of the Armies of the Spider God, Grand Master of the Golden Guard and High Exhalted Champion of Chaos, spoke. And every man, woman and child on the planet heard his voice, clear and booming in their very minds through the strength of his soul voice. Children of the Eye! The time has come for the Spider's plan to be revealed. The Puppeteer has made ready the coming of the Chosen One, and now all has fallen into place. We must go forth and reap the harvest of his great works! know that every one of you trusts completely in our great lord. But there is no room for doubt in the coming trials. He is the architect of our destiny; by his grace we live free from the tyranny of the False God and the hatred of the Dark One. It is time for us to repay him for his grace, and carry out the final, most important acts of his great plan. Eagle will fly once more! Into the stars we go, into the very jaws of our enemy. We will carve a trail of light through the darkness of their hearts, we will save them from slavery and we will prevail. We do not know the path we will take. But we know that whatever the path, it will lead us to glory. Eye watches over you all. It has looked into your souls, every last one of you, and the Spider has decided you are worthy to be his puppets in this most grand and glorious of plans. And should you fall in the hardships that are to come, your mortal souls shall become one with our lord, and you shall be reborn. For in his light we can never die, and we can never be defeated. is your duty, Children of the Eye! It is your destiny! You are the avatars of His will, and you will never falter, for he is with you! He is with you when you first look into the light, he is with you when you join with the light and he is with you when the light restores you. Such is the cycle of existence. Such is truth. now the Despoiler gathers his Crusade, even now the Dark One moves to stop him. The slaves of the False God mass at the gate, and blood will be shed. But this is not our war. The Spider stands not with the gods! He stands not for Chaos! The Spider stands with you, his children, the enlightened and the free! And his will shall be done, through your faith and his blessing. gather your weapons! Take up your arms, man, woman and child! Your lives have taken many different paths, but this is where they lead, as do all things! To the victory of our lord and to the glory of his people! even if your bodies are broken, even if your hearts are torn from your chests, you lose nothing! For you can never die while you march on the strings of the Puppeteer! March forth with this knowledge foremost in your mind and your trust in him foremost in your heart, and your march will never end! For by the power of the Eye, there is no end! There is only change! crowd roared. THERE IS NO END! THERE IS ONLY CHANGE! were his. They would set out in their countless millions, and they would play their part. And they would love him for it. Demeus saluted with his great claw, and turned away. His retinue fell into step as he began to descend. There was much to be done. Demeus stood at the bridge of the Spider's Eye, looking out into the swirling currents of the warp. His retinue stood at various points around the huge chamber, the icon bearer at his side. Durel's enormous form was dwarfed by his Commander, and when he spoke it was in quiet and respectful tones. rituals have been completed. The Golden Guard are fully mobilised, Lord. Demeus' voice was at once a deep rumble in his throat, and a lilting whisper in Durel's head. must await the fleet. Give them another day. It matters not how soon we set out; we shall arrive in time to play our part. The Spider has decreed it. huge man nodded and turned away, to relay the message throughout the ship. They would wait. It mattered not the path, the destination was already assured. |
