Character Creation
It is quite possible the character you are trying to create doesn't fit into any of the existing classes and so you will want to make up your own. This happened to me. I looked through the existing character randomising tables and found the following trends/rules which should help build a balanced class. Obviously the rules don't take into account that for example most rogue traders have much higher Ld than Nv (and yes I know that's already a class, I'm just using it as an example). I hope this will be of some use to you.
Also a quick note about NPC's. I've found if you want to turn existing classes into NPC's you need to take 10-30 off most/all of the stats and to turn NPC's into player characters you need to add 10-30 to most/all of the stats.
As far as skills go, a main character will have about 7skills, a henchman about 5 and an NPC no more than 3.
A good indicator of stats and skills is the characters story, it often provides inspiration for some cool characters.
Character creation notes
Once you have decided on your characters stats follow the guidelines below. (Note x is the value you've chosen)
WS & BS
Both (x-10)+2D10 and BS is usually 5 lower than WS unless the character is a trained shooter.
S & T
If the S and T values are the same then they are both (x-5)+2D6. If they are different then the higher value is (x-10)+2D10 and the lower value is (x-10)+3D6.
I, Wp & Sg
Initiative is usually 5 lower than Wp and Sg. Wp and Sg are usually about the same.
I = (x-10)+2D10
Wp & Sg = (x-15)+3D10
Nv &Ld
The Nv score is usually similar to the Wp and Sg scores and the Ld score is usually similar to the Nv score or less.
If the Nv and Ld scores are different they both =(x-5)+2D6.
If they are the same, Nv =(x-5)+2D6 and Ld =(x-10)+2D10.
Character motivation
Ask simple questions about your character, then roll a D6
odd is no, even is yes
E.g. do they work for the inquistion?
If the answer is yes
The next question might be:
Are they totally loyal?
Also use a D6 to determine character motivation and
determination
The four main traits are :
Fitness/Intelligence/Morals/Bravery
For each of these areas roll a D6 and consult the table below.
6666 means they are
highly athletic, incredibly intelligent, totally trustworthy and brave to the
point of rashness 1111 is the complete opposite
Fitness –Affects I.
Intelligence –Affects Sg.
Bravery –Affects Nv.
Morals –Affects actions.

This should help you get started. I also need things like
family history and background (i.e. were they noble, poor) what sort of planet
do they come form, and on that planet what part of society.
What drives them? Money/hatred/religion
What do they like and dislike?
Favourite things?
What are they likely to be armed with?(Long list please, as I need to choose from
it)
How old are they?
Name, species, race, type of person (i.e. wyrd, pirate etc.)
How close to they live to Parragon? Do they come from there (feelfree to name a place (see picture), but be sensible)?
Significant life events or a timeline perhaps.
Remember this a person so what are their flaws?
Any thing and everything that is relevant. The more detail the better
The last question is why are they on Parragon?
Parragon by the way is class M with cold artic poles, vast desertous equator and in between is all kinds of habitats form jungles to vast modern cities. (See picture)
All this is to help me as GM to write a characters stats. I feel the best way to get balanced characters is to have a say in it creation.
