Arco Flagellant Loganus 7841 (Herbert Lector) - High Inquisitor Julianus +++Thought for the day+++ |
|
One day, during a mutie street riot, Herbert Lector was on his way back from the fruit, vegetables & arms store round the corner to his books & arms store. On his way he was hit twice by a mutie blunderbuss: once in the head and the other time in the arm. This left him with one arm, some very obvious hole in his head, some serious headache and some less obvious change in his habits…
In the following weeks the local Arbites noticed a strange frequency of people disappearing. At first slave owners reported more and more mutie workers as disappeared (which was indeed not uncommon on Lastrati… they fled, were killed in industrial accidents and only registered 'disappeared' pro forma …whatever).
But then also Imperial citizens disappeared. A few week after the first citizen had disappeared, human bones were found in the sewers of the capital. The way they were positioned made one think of someone having had Cthula, a traditional way of dining on a primitive world in the Ultima Segmentum…
The Arbites assigned to the case at first informed themselves about the ritual of Cthula in Herbert Lector's cookbook store… and suddenly their implanted auspices noticed a strange smell coming from the cellar…
Herbert Lector was convicted in seven cases of damage of property (killing and eating the mutie slaves) and four cases of murder (killing and eating imperial citizens) in coincidence with cannibalism and blasphemy against the Emperor. He was condemned to Arco flagellation.
By that time the Adeptus Mechanicus had recovered some crude Ork Bioniks from the battlefields of the 41st millennium and just begun to understand how they might work in connection with the imperial servitor technology. But they still needed some guinea-pig to try out… test subject #348 came in form of a new Arco Flagellant… Loganus 7841.
The tests could be completed successfully and after that Loganus 7841 was sent back to the cardinal of Lastrati III, who was given the power freely to dispose of him. Loganus 7841 was transferred to the arsenals below the cardinal's palace and stored there for a long time.
Cardinal Dariusz Kodačka of Lastrati (a brother of the cardinal of Karis Cephalon) was puritan, faithful and the ideal servant of His Divine Majesty on Earth – to the outside, at least. Secretly he supported a secessionist terror group, the 'White Ribbons'. The Cardinal's clandestine support with weapons and intelligence had enabled them to infiltrate the governor's palace and kill the regent in a spectacular suicide bombing on First Landing Day 982.M.41. The cardinal then used the situation of desperation and chaos to establish himself as the new regent of Lastrati, to bring “stability and the Emperor's vengeance upon the responsible of this vile attack”.
His knowledge about the 'White Ribbons' group allowed his troops to dig out all hiding places and pacificate the rebellion within weeks. Only few members of the group could escape alive to the outlaw northern territories.
Inquisitor Julianus was sent to Lastrati to confirm Cardinal Kodačka as officially sanctioned planetary leader. After certain consultations and interrogations Julianus went to see a local arms merchant who was supposed to have supported the 'White Ribbons'. He refuted vehemently and said, it was a mysterious off-world trader.
Julianus by chance managed to meet a former leading 'White Ribbon' member in the outlaw territories who told the Inquisitor about the appearance of the mysterious supporter… the terrorist's description strangely matched the cardinal' first attaché. Julianus dug deeper and encountered a sump of corruption, officially condoned murder and infinite will to power. The cardinal himself must have induced the rebellion and the attack on the governor…this also explained the cardinal's fast success in the anti-secessionist campaign.
Julianus took the former White Ribbon member under Sanctioned Enlistment and got to know the way to infiltrate the governor's former (i.e. the cardinal's new) palace. They came through the sewers and entered the palace one stairs below the main arms cache.
Clandestine proceeding through the main ventilation system brought them to each hired gun's El Dorado. Julianus activated four Arco Flagellants (including Loganus 7841) and took a bolt gun off the wall. Marcus Luthor equipped himself with a heavy flamer. Kertis Lorne, the IG Veteran, fancied a master-crafted plasma gun… the White Ribbon member took an assault gun. The security agents accompanying them kept their equipment.
They fought their way through the palace up to the cardinal's audience room. Four security agents, three Arco Flagellants and the White Ribbon member were killed in the fights. Julianus finally entered the audience room alone and found the cardinal completely surprised.
“Cardinal Dariusz Kodačka, thou art convicted of supporting secessionist groups, murder in three cases, disregard of an Imperial authority and Heresy. Thy deeds are blasphemous against the God-Emperor on Earth. Thy life is forfeited. May thee serve mankind in death as thou never could have done in life. May the Emperor forgive thy soul… for I cannot…”
The mortal remains of the former White Ribbon member were interred together with the killed security agents with all military and Inquisitorial honours. The name of the former secessionist was…. Isabel Lector.
Loganus 7841 was repaired and from then on served in Inquisitor Julianus' retinue. A small part of his former personality remained, however. There is always a small chance, that Loganus does not react to the key word or starts eating the foe he has just cut down, or…
