Officio sabotorum agent Fane Hicks - Alan Brilly
+++Thought for the day+++
Hicks enjoyed an idylic childhood, the son of a farmer in the Ultramar system. growing up under the constant vigil of the ultra marines, he grew to understand the scale of hostility in the universe which must have warranted the creation of the ultimate guardians of humanity. When he came of age, he joined the imperial guard as a grunt, after facing action in the 2nd Armageddon war, he took a fast track promotion through the ranks, quickly moving into the storm troopers, through the alpha wing and into the black ops section of the guard.
His organisation was known as shield and was an organisation that took on highly dangerous missions that the storm troopers would consider suicidal. Such missions were ethically questionable and morally wrong. Their mission was to prevent the spread of chaos. Such missions they undertook were the bombing of mutant ghettos, the assassination of high ranking imperial officials.
Officially, shield cross trained so much with the officio assassinarum that the two were practically inbred, yet many times the two fought against each other covertly. One notable encounter that was kept quiet was the battle of stalkers pass, fought in the corridors of the eagle stargate on terra. A platoon of shield soldiers had been dropped in order to assassinate one of the high lords of terra, the grand master of the imperial guard, who was affiliated with a Slaaneshi cult on terra itself.
Their group was confronted by a resistance team of 12 assassins who fought them to a bloody standstill. Multiple corridors were blown apart, whole wings being destroyed in such violence not seen on terra since the opening shots of the wars of vindication. 57 men and women fought each other that day and 2 survivors emerged, a vindicare assassin and a lieutenant in shield.
Hicks quickly became a demolitions expert and was selected through the storm troopers alpha wing. His speciality was close range demolitions and infiltrations and with his unit, the so called night stalkers, he was instrumental in the destruction of many tau and necron instilations in the chronos world campaigns. When his team was deployed to confront a necron uprising on the world of mjolnir, he single handily demolished 2 of the major necropoli.
However, this work took a massive toll on his family life. Married for 3 years, his wife became impatient and, not realising what work he was performing had several affairs before becoming pregnant to Hicks himself. She had the child and then left him, leaving him in the cold. Hicks raised the child as best he could during his increased paternity based shore leave. It was then that three major events occurred that would shape the future of hicks and alter his life forever.
The first was a cultist uprising on a planet in the back of the system. Shield were brought into the open for unknown reasons and fought openly with the rest of the guard. In one fateful battle, Slaanesh's faithful summoned a massive hoard of daemons, led by a keeper of secrets. At the turning point in the battle, the keeper of secrets led a massive attack against the guard front line. It was then that grey knight terminators teleported into the battle, confronting the daemon, who swatted them assayed as it would do a swarm of flies. That day he saw the emperors finest, the marines, fall and beg for mercy at the claws of one the galaxies abominations. Hicks began to question his faith in the emperor and his power to stop the forces of the warp.
The second was 2 years after the birth of Isabelle, his daughter. Shield was launched in a covert operation on a planet along with a valhallan regiment in order to locate and destroy something. Whatever it was, it had survived a spaceship crash and bombardment from 2 lunar class ships, as well as multiple airstrikes from bases 200km to the south. What he found there cost him every trooper under his command, all 200 of them. To say it drove him mad would be like saying the brick is red. Rather, what it did was subtler, it dislodged his faith in the emperor completely. Following that, he fled from his home, taking his daughter and setting up home at the far side of the sector.
The third was the fateful day when his daughter was killed. Shield sent hitmen to take the daughter hostage on her first day of school, the hitmen were posing as chaos cultists and were expecting to walk out free. Hicks entered the school and slaughtered the kidnappers wholesale, but not before one of them had killed his daughter with a burst from an autopistol to the face. Hicks, realising what had happened, fled the planet, but not before bombing the secret HQ of shield on that planet, killing dozens in his want for revenge. What no one noticed was the shadowy man at the back of the crouds surrounding the school, carrying what resembled a body under a coversheet.
Isabelle was dead for 2 months before Flagg and Hlokk approached Hicks with their proposal. They told him of their cause, and that the emperor didn't love him, not after he did so much to have it all taken away from him. They also told hicks that they had his daughter's body, and that there could be a way to bring her soul back to her body and make her live once again.
If Hicks agreed to become one of Tak's chosen, tak would do this for him. Hicks understandably agreed and has brought with him his immense demolitions knowledge and considerable fighting skills with him. Hlokk does have every intention of bringing Isabelle back to life and re-unite her with hicks, but Flagg has other plans for a child that showed such amazing telekinetic powers
