Inquisitor Covangus - Alexander Fast +++Thought for the day+++ |
|
Inquisitor Covangus lead a private inquisition in the hunt for demons. He did use to serve the imperium but that was before he discovered that they use the demons to win strategic battles. The demons don’t belong to this world, they live inside the subspace known as the warp. The demons themselves don’t use to take physical form in this world. But they do sometime posses men or creatures and inhabit their brain to stay outside the warp. And sometimes, that now had come to knowledge to inquisitor Covangus, that the imperium summons demons from the warp and let them posses prisoners from battle. Covangus is never going to forget the face of the innocent soldier when he waked up and felt the demon hurling around in his mind.
Inquisitor Covangus was close to get to the position where the warp space disturbings have been reporting. 16 : 59, 16 minutes and 59 seconds. The numbers on the display Covangus has been looking at way to often. He was beginning to be old, and hunting and banishing demons an entire life isn’t easy. Covangus wore, as usual, his all-time robe. It was a coat that ones had been red but now was as old and dull as his eyes. And all over that he had a mighty purple cloak with gold-striped markings that extends along the edge of the cloak.
In the deep space.
He now was near the place where the disturbings had taken place. 00 : 21. He looked out trough the window on his old spacecraft, he couldn’t see anything unusual. He suddenly starts to freeze, he didn’t know why but he did know that some demons that took physical form had an ability to lower the temperature wherever they did move. This was known as the “void of chill”. Back at the time when he hunted demons for the imperium one of his comrade had turn into a completely ice bit under a battle against a demon. That demon had taken about 8 months to find, track down and kill. That had been the first demon with the “void of chill” ability found. It was the first demon Covangus had seen in physical form. Under the 8 months he had been chasing it they named it “Cherubel” after the emperors archenemy.
- “What the...?” Whispered Covangus. He didn’t think about talking clear because he was alone.
He suddenly saw the instruments on the panel. The temperature was dropping at a critical speed. But then suddenly stopped at –1 degree Celsius, 2 degrees colder than the Cherubel.
In readiness.
Inquisitor Covangus had grabbed his blessed sword made of holy silver. Church silver was the best weapon against demons. He looked around, his ship wasn’t so big so if he stand in the middle he could see the entire ship. He kept turning around and around so the possible demon couldn’t ambush him. Then something caught his eye. Two cyan dots on the wall, they hadn’t been there before. Covangus didn’t use to paint dots in his ship. He trembled as he discovered as the area around the eyes was kind of blurred. More and more the thoughts came into his mind. It really was a demon there, but Covangus didn’t want to believe that. If it had been a demon it certainly had attacked by now. The blurred area around the two dots, that Covangus started believe was the eyes, started turning darker and heavier blurred.
It was there, it really was. Now he had to admit that. But why hadn’t it attacked?
- “Why are you here?” Covangus loudly yelled at the blurred area on the wall.
He didn’t know how to handle the situation so he decided to try communicate. Then slowly at start the blurred area turned into a more solid object. Covangus confessed to himself that he really was scared. To demon took a form of something that look like an animal between a dog and a lizard. It had long legs and a tail like a dog and was similar to the size of a big dog. But it did have a lizard’s scaly skin and a head like a crocodile with a parrot beak. It looked stary at him but besides that it took absolutely no actions, neither defensive nor offensive.
Covangus lowered his sword. The two just stud there for several minutes and just looked at each other. Inquisitor Covangus started believe that the creature had possessed telepathic skills. Not that kind of telepathic he heard off, when a person suddenly hears a voice or gets a message inside his head. But this wasn’t like that. It was like a noise that didn’t disturb his hearing. He couldn’t hear something but in some sort of way it communicated with him.
Encountered
Inquisitor Covangus went to the computer. He opened his personal log that he always used to documents his journey. He activated the voice controller so he could speak freely.
- “This is inquisitor Covangus personal log.” He paused a bit, he didn’t know how to describe the newly recovered experience.
- “I...Have just encountered a demon who isn’t interested in any aggressive handling. I think I’m...” At this point the creature walked up against him. Covangus, who now felt threatened, once again grabbed his sword but the creature stopped at a few yards from him. Covangus once more turned his attention to the log.
- “If I didn’t have all these years of experience of demon hunting. I haven’t think that this was a demon at all. All the demons live in the warp and have a strong connection to it. And often they can at a small amount of time ‘move’the possessed body to the warp and become almost transparent. This demon on the other hand, have lost its connection to the warp since it have physical form and has a fully functional existence in this world. I...don’t know but somehow I know that he just want to get back into the warp. I don’t know why I know it, its maybe his telepathic powers.”
He stopped talking and shut the log down. When he turned to the creature again he saw that he had walked away a little bit and hovered one of Covangus shoes just in front of his eyes. And then he put it down on the floor in a corner of the ship, all with just his thought! Covangus had seen many demons with telepathic and telekinesis powers but this one haven’t caused him or the ship any harm since he arrived.
- “This cant simply be a demon, he haven’t tried to possess me or something similar”. He thought simultaneous as he looked at the creature.
- “If you are a demon, I’m going to get you back into the warp. It would be a great opportunity to study a real demons warp portal.”
The demon flickered for a second. Covangus realized that the demon had ability he called “cloak of darkness”. When a demon have this ability its very, very hard to see because its often almost transparent, like when its particularly present in the warp.
- “I’m going to call you Shadow, my friend.” Covangus said to the demon, as he tried to see trough the “cloak of darkness”.
