Inquisitor Quick Scenario : The Disc - Stephen Pearson

This scenario was run as an online game one Friday night and got written as it was played. I liked the result so much I wrote it up as an off the shelf scenario that could eaily be slotted into a campaign. The scenario was designed from the point of view of 1 player character, so the number of NPC's will need increasing if you are going to use warbands. Let me know what you think.

Setting
In the dead of night you slip past the guards on the Gate and enter the Imperial guard facility.

The dull whirr of fans fills the corridors; distant explosions can be heard, coming from the rough direction of the restricted valley. Dust falls from ancient ceiling as the shockwaves pass through the base.

Thick twisted cables snake across the ceiling into the distance (the cables join all the significant locations in some way) The light above you blinks a few times before giving up, centuries of neglect have taken their eventual toll.


Mission Briefing

Greetings,
Your mission is simple. A data disc important to the cause has been seized and is being stored in a local Imperial Guard Facility. It is inside an electronic safe, and the security field will fail if the power is interrupted.

  • Alt Rehno
    is guarding the room containing the Daemon Child.

  • Yacob Kilnt
    Unless the character is directly infront of him, or makes a noise he is unlikely to spot them. Yacob is on patrol of the base past all the significant locations.

    If mind scanned or interrogated this is what the Guard knows:
    He is guarding the room containing the slate, he walks in circles all night checking the area is secure. (Tells location)
    Alt Rehno is guarding something but he doesn't know what (The location of Jezebels room)
    The generator room is where he stores his synthohol to keep it warm (Tells location)
    He doesn't know much about the computer except it mustn't be touched.

    If the power goes down he will run to the room containing the disc.
    If the levers on the computer are pulled he will come and investigate.


    'Jezebel' A daemon child
    She is trapped in the room. If released she will try and enslave any characters she meets or kill those who resist.


    Significant locations/objectives

    Ancient Computer Console
    The machine is old, vast in it proportions, covered in purity seals and the wax of many litanies. It has been well preserved for sure. A burnt screen displays the current status of Security field X24

    The green rotating character in the centre of the screen seems almost familiar. There are many levers and dials plus a small keyboard on an extending arm. Three of the levers have well worn labels that are hard to read:

    Ov_r_d_ _ecu__ity _iel_ (Over-ride security field)-
    Deactivates the security field on the door of Jezebels room

    Op_n _ccess __rt (Open Access port)-
    A small port slides back to reveal a dark cavity.
    Before you can investigate further you are brought to full alert by the sound of footsteps approaching from behind you!

    (If character hides on ceiling using cables) Rounding the corner you see the same guard you glimpsed earlier muttering to himself.
    “Dear, dear all this fuss. Why do they care so much about a disk?”
    “Ho! he crys as he spots the open port. This isn't right, most perturbing…"
    He dashes up to the console to have a better look.

    (If he is confronted/spots the character)
    “Halt, what are you doing here?” Without a very good explanation he will open fire.

    Inside the cavity are 3 coloured wires, about the diameter of a finger, which join up to a junction box. The wires have silver tags on them that read Circuit X24, Control 12 and central power distribution.

  • Circuit X24 keeps Jezebel bound safely in her room.
  • If pulled the icon on the burnt out screen changes from green to red and takes on the appearance of a bleeding red eye. (The screen is separate to the rest of the computer)
  • Claxons will sound and the red alarm lights on the wall will flash.
  • A horrific scream fills the air, you feel as if your head will explode before total silence.
  • If the security field on the door to her room has been deactivated she will explode the head of Alt Rehno.
  • If the field is still active she will control Alt to deactivate it. He will mindlessly wander to the first lever and pull it, paying no head to being attacked.

    Control 12 monitors the function of the internal security system.
  • If pulled there is a 50% chance that the guns on the junctions will drop and fire regardless of whether they have been activated, or the character has a security tag.

  • Central power distribution, regulates the internal power distribution of the computer.
  • If the wire is pulled the computer gives a final whine before packing up. Panels explode in showers of sparks as the control mechanism to distribute its power fails.


    Act___te Int_r_al Sec__ity (Activate Internal Security)-
    A warning tone sounds as Autoguns drop from the ceiling at junctions. They will shoot anyone without a security tag and can take 15 damage before they are destroyed.

    Generator Room
    The corridors leading up to the generator room are dimly lit. In the centre of the room is an ancient generator. The smell of synthohol and oil fill the air.

    (If Jezebel has been unbound and security field on the door removed they will meet her here)
    The walls and ceiling of the room are covered in a layer of ice. A small child appears in the doorway before you. She is badly beaten, covered in blood and clutching a small wooden doll.
    "Will you play with me?" The child asks in a sweet voice.

    (Character says No) "You will play!"
    The child's voice become deep and harsh. It fills your head and your mind swims with evil thoughts. An evil grin crosses the child's face and their eyes burn with the fire of 1000 suns.
    "You will Play!"

    (Character says Yes)
    "Thank you" A pleasant air fills the room
    The child hands you the doll. ”Dolly is my friend."
    The man wouldn't play, the child's voice become deep and harsh.
    "So I killed him!"
    The character is now enslaved to Jezebels will.

    (Character still says no)
  • The character must pass a willpower test or be enslaved to Jezebels will.
  • Jezebel forces them to turn their gun on themselves. If they don't say yes or pass a willpower test they will shoot themselves in the head!

    (If the character shoots Jezebel)
  • All the shots will go through her eyes and blast out her brains.
  • The bleeding empty eyes look at you
    "I will have my revenge!" is the last thing the child utters before the body hits the floor.


    Room containing data disc in security field
    (Whilst power still active) The room is bare apart from the disc on a plinth in the centre of the room, encased in its security field. The light in the room glints off its shiny case.

    (Power deactivated) The room is bare apart from the disc on a plinth in the centre of the room. A dull blue light emanates from the ceiling above the disc.

    (If the disc is taken) Four lasguns drop from the ceiling, tracking the room for the thief.
    Every yard the character runs they will be shot at D3 times. If they move less than 2 yards a turn they will not be shot at.

    Jezebels room
    Jezebel cannot speak or move whilst she is still bound.

    (If she has been unbound but the field on the door is still active) The walls and ceiling of the room are covered in a layer of ice. A small child appears in the doorway before you. She is badly beaten, covered in blood and clutching a small wooden doll.
    "Will you free me?" The child asks in a sweet voice.

    (Character says No) "You will free me!"
    The child's voice become deep and harsh. It fills your head and your mind swims with evil thoughts. An evil grin crosses the child's face and their eyes burn with the fire of 1000 suns.
    "You will free me!"

    (Character says Yes)
    A pleasant air fills the room "Thank you. There is a computer panel with many levers. Pull the one labelled 'Over-ride security field' "

    Then as Generator Room

    (Character still says no)
  • The character must pass a willpower test or be enslaved to Jezebels will.
  • Jezebel forces them to go to the computer panel and pull the lever labelled 'Over-ride security field'

    Then as Generator Room

    Outcomes
    Enslaved to Jezebel – They play their character will Jezebel until she is killed or the character breaks free of her influence. They will act in the interests of Jezebel.
    Gets disc – The disc contains information important to the characters mission.
