Stoneybridge West Signalling Diagram.

DIA:01 Whole Layout trackplan including hidden lines and fiddle yard. DIA:02 The facing point for the up loop (PM3) is situated across a baseboard joint and a bridge! The point blades and operating bar are located in the middle of a shallow bridge at the edge of board C. The point crossing is on board B and feeds traction power to the up mainline and a short section of the up loop. As the point blades (on board C) switch the polarity of the crossing (on board B) they are electrically connected across the baseboard join through the DB9 plug & socket link that feeds traction current to board C. When this point is motorised the solenoid unit will be fitted to board C to operate the point blades with the point motor units auxiliary switch controlling the polarity of the crossing on board B. As the point blades are also situated on a bridge the point motor cannot be fitted directly below the point. The point motor unit will be fitted in a more suitable hidden location beside the tunnel beyond the bridge operating the point through the surface rodding only, this may require the rodding to this point to be made from a larger diameter brass rod than the rest of the moving mechanical rodding on the layout which is made from very fine brass rod as it is assisted by secondary rodding below the baseboards which transmits the physical forces required to throw a sprung PECO N gauge point.

SIGNALS:

SP1. is constructed using 2mm scale versions of D&S brass etches; lattice post parts and signal parts & fittings. These are very fine etches which are being built into an operational signal with 3 stop arms and 1 distant. This bracket signal controls the Down Main, Down Loop (exit from yard) and movements from the yard headshunt (secondary line to left of post) The mainline doll will also carry a fixed distant arm.

SP2. was built from a P&D Marsh whitemetal lattice post kit and is used to signal the Up mainline and Up loop to main connection. The mainline doll also carries a fixed distant arm.

SP3. is a P&D Marsh tubular post kit, signal arms and fittings are a mixture of bits from the P&D Marsh whitemetal signal kits, Ratio plastic signal kits and 2mm scale versions of D&S etched brass signal parts & fittings. This signal controls departures in the Up direction from the Down platform. This signal allows trains to leave from the Down main (platform 2) across the trailing connection onto the Up line. The right hand doll will carry a shunt signal to control access to the yard from the Down loop.

Disc signals: There are no ground signals fitted yet, these will be addressed once the main running signals are completed. I will be attempting to scratchbuild both mechanical dolly signals and electric colour light shunt signals with working 'lamps' fed via fibre optics from below the baseboard.
