Image 1: Signalman communicating with Poole Box on an electric telegraph block signalling instument. Notice the levers with short handles, these are fitted with electromechanical switchgear below the operating floor controlling electrical circuits instead of mechanical mechanisms using wires, pulleys and cranks. The short handle being a reminder that these levers require a lot less force and can be operated with one hand. The original long handled levers used to operate points and facing point locks need to be pulled with both hands as the operating force is mechanically transmitted along rodding and cranks. It requires quite a bit of effort and skill to operate a mechanical leverframe smoothly.
Image 2: Track diagram centrally placed above lever frame, this has been refitted just above the instrument shelf during refurbishment having been located higher up originally to clear the top of other instruments on the shelf that have since been removed due to simplification of the trackwork. Also notice the number of spare levers. (painted white)

Image 3: Signalperson's view looking West along the mainline. Right window: The public areas, canopy over platform 1 and Starter signal on Platform 2. Left window: Non-Public area, The fence down the middle of platform 2 separates the public area and the branch platform which was closed on removal of station buildings and canopy in the early 1970s. Note: Standard domestic electric cooker in front West corner of the box. (I wonder whatever happened to the old stove?)
Image 4: East end of box with modern digital equipment beside the Electric Key Token that is still used to control access to the Hamworthy Goods branch. Note: during refurbishment the classic wooden floor boards have been covered with a fitted carpet!.

Image 5: Well looked after electric block telegraph instruments on the shelf at West end of box. The power and control cables can be seen running down the shelf support. The amount of cables have been greatly reduced after removal of redundant instruments.
Image 6: 59 Lever frame now with most of the levers disconnected and painted white denoting them as spares. Also notice the small cluster of indicator lamps on the front of the shelf.
