Thursday 20th January 2000, Class 73 Electro-Diesel locomotive 73101, `The Royal Alex' awaiting its allocated mainline path at Hamworthy Junction standing at the outer face of the Down platform on the Hamworthy Goods line. It was photographed while waiting to work the Serco test train back to Southampton after hauling it down the mainline to Weymouth this morning, and Propelling it back to Hamworthy around Mid-Day to complete track testing on the Hamworthy Goods branch.

73101 (E6007) Class 73/1 "THE ROYAL ALEX" HISTORICAL NOTES.
1965 Built by English Electric at Newton-Le-Willows for British Rail named "Brighton Evening Argus".
1967 E6007 The E prefix was officially dropped.
1972 E6007 was renumbered to the TOPS scheme receiving number 73101.
1989 (MAR) 73101 moved to Eastleigh Works for light repairs.
1989 (APR) 73101 left Eastleigh Works after repair/refit of radiator fan sets.
1991 (SEP 21) 73101 "Brighton Evening Argus" rapainted in Pullman livery worked special Brighton Belle trains from London Victoria to Brighton to mark the 150th year of the London to Brighton route. The train consisted of VSOE cars Zena, Ione, Ibis, Lucille, Vera, Phoenix, Audrey, Minerva and Baggage Car No 7. 73101 hauled two workings to Brighton with 73128 named "O.V.S.Bulleid" hauling the return trains to London Victoria after a ceremony with Michael Bulleid and H.A.V.Bulleid. Both locomotives were passed for 90mph running with the special trains. which was recorded on the locomotive data panels.
1991 (NOV 4) 73101 worked 7M71 10:00 departmental service from Woking Yard to Willesden.
1997 (MAY 3) 73101 on display at Crewe Depot open day.
2000 (NOV 25) 73101 + 73129 worked 16:30 Willesden to Dover TPO.
2001 (AUG 31) 73101 worked Clapham to Dover TPO.
2001 (OCT 18) 73101 worked Orient Express charter train from London Victoria to Dover.
2002 (MAY) 73101 Withdrawn. stored out of use at Hither Green depot.
